I'm wondering if Walsh sort of influenced this trade. I believe Fleury is still with him and Guerin is pretty buddy buddy with Fleury.

The fact that Minnesota was ahead in the trade made me think Walsh had something to do with the trade.

Also I think Hunt tops out around a Soucy/Seeler type of depth guy.
Hunt is a better skater and all round more talented than Seeler, though Seeler is tougher. Soucy is a different thing altogether. Late bloomer, awkward looking, but actually had some talent. Injuries have hurt his career.

He's great.. goes like hell! Perfect bottom 6er! He has some scoring ability too! Nice swiss army knife to have on a roster.
Has a bit of crazy to him, as well as some speed and some grit.

I am really surprised that MN is playing him on the big team. Maybe it's to give Bogo some rest? he has been durable during his time in MN, but has had a lot of injuries elsewhere.

Probably just a sop to keep him happy, but if he shows decently, one of Merrill or Chisholm might be moved.

This isn't selling high for a 6th overall, which is why he's bringing back a late 1st and a 2nd.

It is though. Everyone is assuming he’s much better than he is. This is all paying for potential* because he certainly isn’t great now.

Ok cool, you get a late 1st in a really weak draft unless Minnesota collapses, a 2nd in 2 years, and a depth defenseman. Not even close to a haul.

It’s not a weak draft .. what r u talking about

You move Merrill out every day of the week. And try to blackmail a GM to take Trenin as well.

How? The BJs had control of Jiricek for years to come. Either they made the evaluation that this is his peak value or like with Laine they panicked.

Waddell is showing to be spineless. On principle he shouldn't have moved Jiricek or Laine as fast as he did. In a market like Columbus you can't just cave to every player’s request to leave. The only advantage Columbus has with these players is time. You want to leave? You better play well and come with a good attitude so you will have value in a trade. If you’re Jiricek you want to ruin your reputation and be a cry baby? Good! Get a house in Cleveland until you're 26.

Burning Jiricek's value because someone else is playing well is just dumb. They are not competing for anything this year or next. They need more assets to be better not less.
Got to make room on the depth chart for better players. Provorov should be next.

Appreciate the concern, but we're fine. Many of us are happy with the new direction under Waddell. Finally feels like there is a plan and a steady hand in charge.
You add Brindley, Chinakhov & Jenner to the lineup and that’s a playoff caliber team in a weak East.

Would've been a fleece if it's Jiricek 2 years ago, the luster has faded after a pretty botched development. This is a pretty fair deal if you bet high on potential.

Is this a good return for a 6th OA pick? Nope, not even close.
The problem is, it was not a 6th OA pick.
Atm Hunt alone is better than Jiricek and CBJ got a handful of picks on top.
CBJ accepting a mediocre (for a #6 OA) return is a huge red flag.
Talking about mediocre…mediocre skating does not mean he is a decent skater. It means he is rather a bad skater. Another red flag.

In a few years we will know, if CBJ cut their losses or if Billy G made a nice deal between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

I find it extremely funny that the previous thread was all outside fans telling Columbus fans that the Jackets would be lucky to get a second for their distressed malcontent asset, and now that a trade has happened that includes a first, a second, third, a fourth, AND a 6/7 NHL-ready defenseman who's an upgrade over all three bottom-six LHD in Columbus right now and the new consensus is that Columbus got fleeced.
Weren’t there a lot of BJ’s fans asking for one of the top prospects on other teams? I think these types of threads go both ways depending on the fanbase where one side wants a complete overpayment and the other side wants a player for cents on the dollar. The reality is usually somewhere in the middle
