Confirmed Trade: [MIN/CBJ] David Jiricek, 2025 5th round pick for Daemon Hunt, 2025 1st round pick, 2027 2nd round pick, 2026 3rd and 4th round picks

Yeah this just never works. Everyone always says that, but the team always caves. If we hang on to him and he continues to shit down his leg against NHL competition then we're suddenly getting a 3rd rounder instead of the haul today.

Also, here's the part you're not understanding. Ive alluded to it multiple times in this thread. It's become fairly obvious that Waddell didn't think highly of either of them as players. Not to say they suck or anything, but they didn't fit what he was going for at all. He needs guys with motors who can skate. Neither fit the bill. There was mutual interest for both of them to move on.

Also calling him spineless is hilarious. Talk about an overreaction.
Ok cool, you get a late 1st in a really weak draft unless Minnesota collapses, a 2nd in 2 years, and a depth defenseman. Not even close to a haul.

18 hours ago, a Wild fan posting this exact deal would have been met with vitriol over how "bad" it is by that same poster. Now he's saying it's a haul.

The direct quotes from what was technically earlier today:
For how bad you guys seem to want Jirichek I think the ask would actually be Rossi. If its not that kindly step aside.
Now again, you dont want to give up Rossi or any of your top prospects. Thats fine! But the Hoglander thread is that-a-way. That's more your market.

For a defensemen that can't skate. Not too shabby. Tidy work.

Seriously, Im wishing Jiricek and the wild the best. I'm a fan of our expansion brothers. But the further you get away from your draft the more your play matters. Can't keep hanging onto the draft spot. If so we would have gotten more for the Liam Foudys of the world.

Wouldn't say it's bad. I would absolutely say I don't think it's what we needed. The value is right but like I said a few days ago, our cupboards are stocked and overflowing, we need help now.

Now if DW goes and turns picks into players that can help sooner I'll be happy. If we get a 1 for Provorov and we draft 3 guys in the top round of 2025 I'll be pretty pissed.

The Wild are going to be scary here soon. Stacked at D and we are about to get 14 million dollars back to do some damage in free agency.
We aren't going to be able to do much damage in free agency when we have to save that dough for Kaprizov, Rossi, and other prospects who are pulling their own weight quite well.

But it sure as hell helps getting that dead cap off the books.

If, in fact, CBJ actually wrote off Jiricek as some posters here seem to reflect... those fans should be ecstatic with this trade. Hunt is a legit NHL dman right now. He's not flashy, he's not going to put up a bunch of points, he will be a solid 3rd pair ... right now. Probably a very capable 2nd pair now or very soon. He was our most NHL ready AHL dman. And you got a bunch of picks. I hope Jiricek turns out for us.

We basically gave up an entire draft and extra for a wildcard. Yikes. I haven't seen much of Jiricek, but his skating alone tells me to stay away. Not worth it.

Also I have no clue how Guerin expects to fit in these young players when he doesn't have roster or cap room for them. If Guerin really wants to win in the next couple years, then he should be doing the opposite of this. He should be trading the prospects/picks for an established player(s). Although the defense position is a long-term question mark for us, we have hopefuls already in the organization.

Jiricek is mid. Good on CBJ to sell high. Injury history, consistently - in the AHL, bad mobility and problems with coaches and PT is a nasty mix. His ceiling is Matheson at best.

This. Ppl citing he was a 6th pick don’t understand that being a high pick doesn’t mean squat if you don’t develop.

Andy Ness has been given one big project for the holidays. Hope that kid is humble enough to listen and learn.
There's been a lot of questions about his attitude, and rightfully so. I still think a lot of that is Walsh. Walsh got what he wanted now, so hopefully the attitude magically improves.

Hmmm, reminds me of the Oilers trading a 1st & 2nd round pick to the Islanders for a big slow defenseman (Griffin Reinhart) that was busting 3 years after being drafted 4th overall in 2012.
That 2015, #16 overall 1st round pick Matt Barzal ended up being a pretty decent player while Reinhart (Sam's bro) played 30 more NHL games. Columbus did ok.

That's a good one. Different types of players, but similar circumstances. Bailing was the right move.

We made a similar move for a similar player in Cam Barker when he was a little more experienced than Jiricek. Blackhawks fleeced us.

Too often teams fixate on when a guy was drafted. He was 6th overall two years ago! He must be a great prospect! Nope, not always how it works. 2+ years is enough to change things entirely. In particular this line of thinking is dangerous with weak draft classes. 2022 is struggling as a whole.

I'm still having nightmares of Walsh when the Wild tried to negotiate with Gaborik and Dupuis in 2003-04.

I'm wondering if Walsh sort of influenced this trade. I believe Fleury is still with him and Guerin is pretty buddy buddy with Fleury.

The fact that Minnesota was ahead in the trade made me think Walsh had something to do with the trade.

Also I think Hunt tops out around a Soucy/Seeler type of depth guy.

Hope he likes Iowa.lol

Not sure exactly how the rotation will work for now, he probably gets in for Bogosian in the games where we don't necessarily need Bogosian's grit, maybe they play he or Bogosian off-hand to sit Merrill/Chisholm who were the 6/7 guys before Brodin went down.

It's a tight blueline but it seems like they're going to give him a real chance.

Its a phenomenal blue line.. Wild are great his year. I don't like his chances at all.lol Hope I'm dead wrong and he plays in NHL for remainder of season. I like where he landed but this is a strong team with a strong blue line and he just turned 21.

Following the Wild wasn't on my bucket list. Time to call up Spacek and get Lauko back. Small Czech colony.lol

Hunt is a better skater and all round more talented than Seeler, though Seeler is tougher. Soucy is a different thing altogether. Late bloomer, awkward looking, but actually had some talent. Injuries have hurt his career.

He's great.. goes like hell! Perfect bottom 6er! He has some scoring ability too! Nice swiss army knife to have on a roster.
Has a bit of crazy to him, as well as some speed and some grit.

I am really surprised that MN is playing him on the big team. Maybe it's to give Bogo some rest? he has been durable during his time in MN, but has had a lot of injuries elsewhere.

Probably just a sop to keep him happy, but if he shows decently, one of Merrill or Chisholm might be moved.
