Post-Game Talk: Mike Smith beats Hutch. Oilers win 3-2

Its an us problem at this point. The difference in quality of goalies who’ve stonewalled us is beyond just mere coincidence or “he just has our number.” This team has an issue with finishing for some reason. It’s no wonder Dubas is pushing for another forward. Hope he gets a goalie to go along with said forward.
Where are we for goals scored now? The crappy PP hurts, but it doesn't mean much for missed chances because were barely generating there

Does it really matter? I don't see the Flames or Nucks going on a winning streak anytime soon. Our playoff position doesn't really matter, and to be honest I think Montreal is a better team than the Oilers and the Jets.

If the Leafs have a 7 point lead in the division with 3 games to go that would be very useful. Be completely locked in, rest people.

And they took 3 of 4 from us. Didn't get to gain anything on them.
The Leafs have gotten 9 out 10 points from the Oilers the past 5 games, 14 of 18 points in the 9 games this season. We can cry about tonight, though I guess.

Is it me or have the Leafs dominated scoring chances and shots for like a dozen games? This team tilts the ice so frequently. Looking forward to a time of good goaltending health.

Time to end the Thornton experiment. Need a young, tough, fast, cheap motivated player from the farm in his place.

I agree. I love Joe and respect him but man he's looking slow. I even wonder if the next time he scores they even show it in slo motion.. tv would look like it had a glitch

Honestly, I don’t think Smith was amazing. He pretty much just did what good goalies should be doing.
Leafs didn’t attack the net as much after the 1st period-don’t know why.
Matty and JT missed a few shots(missed the net) where they would have scored most of the time.

I didn't think Smith was amazing either. It's weird how so many people want to blame every single loss on goaltending as if we were otherwise a flawless team.

Can Keefe try Veini next game? We have done watching Hutch on net. His experience should be over.

Bull. Freddie on Robidas Island opens up cap space to sign an alternative. Freddie's done here. Time to accept it.

I've accepted he's not here next season, I'm talking about the now and the fact his injury isn't season ending and I don't think him or his agent would be to pleased stashing him on Robidas Island when he is trying to showcase himself as a UFA in the summer. Be realistic, you can't just go putting people that aren't hurt on LTIR, the only options for this season is trading for another goalie and they don't have the cap to do so. I'm just saying, everyone wants freddy gone right now and Hutch is the 3rd option.

Wow the Oiler threads are painful. Game thread was whining about phantom penalties all night, now they won the Stanley Cup and own the North. Lol.
Their claim to fame is that they can beat Ottawa more than Toronto can.

WTF is Dubas waiting for? Get a god dam goalie!!!
James Reimer or the corpse of Devan Dubnyk? Because unless Dubas pulls another rabbit out of his hat like he did last year, those are the best goalies available.

A long deflection into the middle of the net? Of course he had a chance. He could have come across with the shot going way wide but did a weird wave and opened himself up.

But whatever. I don't expect much from Hutch. Leafs need to score some for their 3rd stringer.

Wel, that's one way of looking at it. Apparently.:laugh:

They are pretty brutal with whining about the penalties, worse than our regular whiners in the game threads lol

Exactly.
I don’t think Hutch lost the game or Smith won the game. Both goalies played solid and pretty much made saves most goalies in the league would made.

Edmontons cup off our 3rd stringer.

Got a point.

Move on.
Yeah this win was the Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup. McDavid and Draisaitl were invisible all game. They were not even noticeable.

The Leafs are the WAY BETTER team, and I really hope we get the Oilers 1st round! If we have Andersen or Campbell healthy in top shape, we will sweep the Oilers. I seen some thing in that Oilers team that I have not seen before, they are a very bad team. Shut down McDavid and Draisaitl vanishes. Mike Smith bailed them out tonight.

Oh well, Oilers fans can celebrate their Stanley Cup win tonight against Toronto’s fourth string goalie. What a joke
