Post-Game Talk: Mike Smith beats Hutch. Oilers win 3-2

How has Rielly not learned how to play a 2 on 1? He has went through Carlyle, Horachek, Babcock and now Keefe. Multiple D partners.
Do something as the guy back. Stop standing in the middle. It's basically a 2 on 0 with a pylon.

I thought the Leafs dominated the majority of that game. Smith was really good for the Oilers. Hutchinson wasn't bad but he wasn't as good or busy.

If their fanbase are being honest with themselves, Smith was the only reason why they were still in it.. and the goal posts.

They have no depth behind McDrai and got lucky tonight.. Holl and Muzz did another great job on those two elite players.

I think Smith had more to do and therefore you could say he had a better game but yeah, not by that much really.

That first period was so good, and then we just faded away.
We were great in the third too. Just couldn't finish

Eh he stuck with McDavid. I would have too.

Matthews messed up there.

Completely false.

Pay attention now, I don't want keep repeating myself, can you do that?

Overall, our goaltending needs to be much better if we're to have playoff success. That's our biggest problem but ... pay attention now ... there are plenty of other areas that have a lot of room for improvement.

Is that clear enough for you?
I'm just going by what you said now, about Smith arguably being a tiny bit better than Hutchinson and the team completely faded away after the first period. It doesn't actually match what happened

I wouldn't touch James Reimer with a 200 foot pole, to be honest. If it came down to that, I'd rather go for Dubnyk and see if he has anything left. Or maybe Raanta (who is #3 on the available tenders list), though you're risking it on a guy who's as unproven as Campbell.
Why would Carolina give up Reimer?

Reimer back in our net would be surreal.

Teams I want to play in the playoffs:

1.) Montreal (For old times sake)
2.) Oilers (Easiest win for us)
3.) Winnipeg (Best goaltending in the North)

I'd put WPG last on my list.

Smith saved a 2 on 0 and a 2 on 1 with matthews wide open, as well as a number of other great ones stoning the likes of marner Tavares galchenyuk point blank in front.

That's more than just making the saves he should have.
Hutch could made that save on Soup. And everyone knows AM will be the shooter if Marner is the other player on a odd man rush.
Hutch also made some redirected saves too.

Point I am trying to make is that Smith didn’t beat us like Kos or Elvis did in summer or Demko a few weeks ago.

I hate the fact this team still has no spine. Larsson out of people gets tough on you.

Man it would be nice to back up a team that has balls. Teams like Columbus, doesn't have skills but doesn't get pushed around. You don't have to be Vegas

Neither does well on the play. Rielly had a tough one overall, just never looked comfortable or confident

I thought brodie was the one struggling tonight. Awful pinch on goal 1 and weird ass play to lose the puck on goal 2, his 2nd turnover of that shift.

Lol a 2 on 0 save is now no biggie. Just the save he should make. Meanwhile any half chance against Toronto is "no chance" for the goalie. I love it.

And they took 3 of 4 from us. Didn't get to gain anything on them.

Gain? It's Edmonton that needs to gain. We could have widened our lead but we are not in a position to gain on Edmonton. But they now have 2 fewer games to catch us

Muzzin bodied the hell out of McDavid all game. It was pretty sweet.

We've had a lot of trouble finishing lately, it's hard to win if you can't finish.

Not completely faded, but the 1st period was our best by far.

Did you notice how we were able to capitalize on our chances in the 1st?

Neither were good. I don't mind the pinch on #1, if Rielly backs up properly it's a nothing play. Second one was Brodie IMO.

Rielly had a number of poor icings, bad passes and just bad decisions overall. Him and Marner playing hot potato killed half of our PP

Mm I didn't see it. He was rushing the puck all night I'd wager his numbers ended up pretty good.
