Post-Game Talk: Mike Smith beats Hutch. Oilers win 3-2

I didn't think Smith was amazing either. It's weird how so many people want to blame every single loss on goaltending as if we were otherwise a flawless team.
Not Flawless, just better.

Do you think our team generated more and better chances than EDM? Who do you think made more difficult saves, Hutch or Smith?

Exactly.
I don’t think Hutch lost the game or Smith won the game. Both goalies played solid and pretty much made saves most goalies in the league would made.

I think Smith had more to do and therefore you could say he had a better game but yeah, not by that much really.

That first period was so good, and then we just faded away.

We didn't continue to dominate, but we still had some fantastic chances that forced Smith into big saves. That includes a 2on0 and the Matthews save in OT.

Outplayed them and almost won with our 3rd stringer in net. Not a great result, but it could've been worse.

5v5 play has been great, but that PP really needs to start burying their chances.

I think Jumbo needs a vacation to Robidas Island. Even a week or two vacation would do him and the team some good...
Not a week or two, needs to be permanently. Thornton is cooked, time to retire. He is like a heavy old useless boat anchor the team has to carry.

The team would be way better with young Robertson in the line up.

Reimer. There's not enough popcorn in the world if that happens.

:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:
I wouldn't touch James Reimer with a 200 foot pole, to be honest. If it came down to that, I'd rather go for Dubnyk and see if he has anything left. Or maybe Raanta (who is #3 on the available tenders list), though you're risking it on a guy who's as unproven as Campbell.

And vice versa
9 out of a 10 possible points against them in the last 5 games and the Leafs finish the season 6-2-1 against them. But sure, let’s be upset they beat the Leafs third stringer for the first time all season. Lol.

To me, I think the results will still be the same if we swapped goalies.
I think Oilers just sucked in the first period. No offence to Engvall and Kerfoot but those two were skating circles around Oilers from our blue line in the first period.

Weak effort from Matthew's in OT. Feel bad for Hutch who otherwise had a decent game.
How did Hutch have a decent game? Oh yeah, he didn’t allow a goal in the first 5 minutes and none went through him. But how many great saves did he make? Smith makes a save on the best goal scorer in the league on a 2 on 1 and Hutch allows a goal by a defenceman on a 2 on 1. We really lower our standards when that sieve is in net.

We really are lucky we earned a point but that’s not because of Hutch. The Oilers really had no good scoring chances. They should have shot more from anywhere on the ice.

Smith saved a 2 on 0 and a 2 on 1 with matthews wide open, as well as a number of other great ones stoning the likes of marner Tavares galchenyuk point blank in front.

That's more than just making the saves he should have.

It seems like you're always on the side that the team isn't good enough and the goaltending is just fine, no matter what actually happens in a game

Completely false.

Pay attention now, I don't want keep repeating myself, can you do that?

Overall, our goaltending needs to be much better if we're to have playoff success. That's our biggest problem but ... pay attention now ... there are plenty of other areas that have a lot of room for improvement.

Is that clear enough for you?

I guess that's one way to look at it.
