Richards is really only overpaid by 1.8 or 2 million. You are not saving 6 million by cutting him loose. His replacement will most likely cost 3.5 million.

There is no reason to keep Stoll. He is unproductive on the bottom lines. Lombardi is not going to roll with two rookie centers in the bottom six.

You can't continue to trout Stoll a black hole of production out on the ice. Both need to be gone richards/Stoll.

The problem is, Richards is going to be tough to move.

Johnny, I'm legitimately shocked to hear you are at these games. What are you doing while you're there?

You didn't see him laying out any Ducks recently? Were you engrossed in a boxing magazine?

You havent seen the breakaways, presumably because they were at even strength, right?

I suppose when the money argument doesn't bother us, we really should be considering whether or not he can beat up Europeans. I'll betcha he doesn't lead the team at all, I don't even see a letter or nothing.

Haha, I admit I laughed pretty hard.

While at the game, I am watching a former shell of a player named Mike Richards' skate on the 4th line making the same kind of money as Zdeno Chara, Pekke Rinne, and Drew Doughty this year.

Exactly what the other poster said above, he is making about 2 million more than he is worth...and for that reason he is expendable.

Pretty sure Chara,Rinnie,Doughty all make more money than Mike. If you're talking actually dollar wise, than sure he makes what they do.

But not cap hit wise, which is the only number teams care about.

Yeah I don't give a red hot **** about what's in his bank account. His cap hit isn't great, but for what he brings the situation is manageable.

I know you don't but Dean Lombardi and Jeff Soloman do. Especially with the Voynov news.

Kings have LOWEST Cap space of ANY NHL team right now. They also have the lowest trade deadline space.

http://www.capgeek.com/payrolls/

Lombardi will not let that continue.

Look at the roster and tell me who else makes big money that plays a position that the Kings are deep in and is expendable?????

Kings are spending the 5th most in the league but because of LTIR or bonuses there are 4 other teams ahead of us in spending, but in terms of Cap space we are 1st...with the lowest space available.

Any player outside Kopitar/Doughty/Quick/Carter is expendable. Why do people keep acting like, the entire team is a core that can't change.

Agreed, but who outside of that group do the Kings want to move? Who can they deal that someone else younger and cheaper can replace them? Who will they miss come playoffs?

No problem with this stance, none. If a move has to be made, it will be made. But it will benefit the team and be done at a logical time, not as some knee jerk reaction after refreshing capgeek.

Its the smear campaigns and the zealot-like fervour that "THIS has to be the way, I told you so from day one, look at this thing I (sort of) read, there is NO time to think, action MUST be taken" attitude that drives me bonkers.

as does the apparent stunning realization that the best team in the NHL over the last three years is butting up against the cap.

I don't get the panic either.

11 Teams have less than 1.5 million in cap space, welcome to a cap world.

Where every year, you are probably up against the cap, unless your team has an internal budget(or the team is rebuilding).

Dave Bolland makes 5.5 million.... The Hawks might have gotten a steal out of Brad Richards.

At 2 million, Richards might give them second line Center production.
That would be a boon for the Hawks.

I don't agree with all of your posts in this thread, but it's hard to argue against any of these points. If there is somehow that Shore can prove he would be a more than adequate 3rd line center, it makes sense.

IF Stoll stays with the Kings, his role will be as an inexpensive 4th line center. He can fill that role adequately IMO.

Thank you. I starting posting facts and still people find a way around them. Anyone that follows the Kjngs knows Lombardi does not spend like Sather or Holmgren used too, yet the numbers show we are.

It's time to cut someone loose...

Once again the Kings don't have to move anyone, they are under the salary cap.

Can we move away from that discussion....

The NHL didn't call the Kings today , and say "Move a player you are over the salary cap".

I don't think anyone is advocating a particular timeline. Some people are talking about next season. Some people are looking at the stupid way that the NHL is handling the Voynov situation and are wondering if something might have to be done this season.

Should be based on performance. Kingsfan already debunked the whole cap issue numerous posts back. Kingsfan cap crunch even included the salary cap not going up at all.

Seems people are only concerned about Richards cap hit. Which isn't even a problem really. His performance could be a problem if he doesn't maintain this improved play.

Martinez is coming back within a week, the kings have just won 3 in a row, tell me why exactly the kings need the cap space right now?

We are still in November ffs, why are any moves needed exactly?

Richards with another solid game tonight... did he get credited with an assist on Pearson's goal? It's nice to see Richards playing with a winger that can find the back of the net.

I get what your saying and I understand numbers are facts, right now Iam doing my budget for 2015 and have been up to my butt in numbers, facts and formulas, but I also know that after following this team since Nixon was president and having the greatest player ever, having a guy like dionne who was top five of his generation and assorted jokers and clowns to the left and right of us lead us to heart break after heart break that since the day we made that trade we have been contenders and feel like contenders to all of us and have ACTUALLY won the freaking CUP twice Holy **** say that slowly we have won the CUP twice since he has joined the team. Does he get all the credit no of course not but hockey is not only numbers, otherwise the plus 57 shultz was in washington is a perfect example, hockey is will, heart and desire and the guy is all that and a bag of chips. For the record I love discussing how much our champions make so much more than who we pick with any number pick

Think about that part of your sentence for a second. You are absolutely right. The second part of your sentence is where you are absolutely wrong.

Anyone who follows the Kings knows Lombardi marshals and allocates his cap space wisely. For his efforts he was rewarded with 2 cups in 3 years, just missing a shot at the 3rd.

I think anyone in their right mind would say he spent all of his cap space, but he did it wisely. Holmgren spent the same amount (and more) stupidly. Sather spent the same amount (and more) stupidly. Nonis/Burke spent the same amount (and more) stupidly.

....and look, the Voynov situation has shifted in our favour. See what a little patience does for our options?
