See it could be worse (semin, Markov, Brassard, Ward, Mike Green)

Brassard making $7 million, even in a front loaded contract has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've seen in the NHL.

Atleast Richards used to be good and warranted his contract when he signed it, same with others on that list like Green and Semin.

I think with the Voynov situation we will eventually see Richards dealt for a dman, somebody like Tyler Myers. I don't think any fan can discount what guys like Stoll and Richards mean to the Kings and Sutter behind the bench. They have to make coaching easier, high IQ players. So while the stats aren't there the W-L column, which is what is really important to the Kings, they are getting the desired results. Not only that but Lombardi has set the blue print for success in the current NHL and you now see teams actively pursue centers just to keep up with how LA is built. Yes, Richards can be frustrating to watch, again my contention is he has lost his hand eye coordination, he continually fumbles or mishandles the puck when it's on his stick yet the Kings keep winning. So why trade him unless you can get a piece you really want and need?

Sorry if this has been answered. On both the oiler board and trade board there is confusion about his no trade clause. It was signed in philly and i thought since he was teaded before it kicked it that it was null and void as ntc are only tagged to the team that signs deal and not the team where he is playing when the contract kicks in

Boom!
Point made

I basically agree, but if they did trade him for a defenseman, it certainly would be for someone like Myers.

As I remember it, in that scenario it is up to the team that acquires him to decide if they want to honor the NMC or void it and the Kings likely voided it. I mean I can't say I remember ever reading an official statement that they did but I think beat writers have mentioned that they've got zero movement clauses on the team. Someone else might have a better recollection.

Shorter version: Pretty sure he doesn't have one.

It's confusing as Capgeek is also vague on if Richards has one still

Agreed.

And like above--I don't think it's publicly ever been stated but it's largely assumed to have been voided.

I bet the NMC was voided. It wouldn't surprise me if Lombardi made a promise that he wouldn't be traded to some effect.

Well, this is why you have assets like the Shore and Weal kids down in Manchester.

Nick Shore has 18 points in 17 games.

If they dealt Richards' or Stoll, the Kings wouldn't miss a beat with Kopitar, Carter, Shore, and whoever stays.

Ridiculous. Did you really forget how Andreoff, Vey, Pearson and YES, even Toffoli struggled when they first got a taste of the NHL? Never mind the fact that Shore would be playing Center, easily the most difficult of all the forward positions.

Putting up points in the AHL means nothing in the NHL.

Agreed, it's not just forwards either. LOLbarbera was goalie of the year in the AHL during a lockout year (so more NHL players)

Shore will struggle to produce in the NHL like all rookies do. Vey is more offensively talented than Shore; Vey has already been a healthy scratch for the Nucks playing quality minutes (with decent line-mates).

Shore will have his struggles, but he is a stud prospect.

Shore will probably get a couple games this year and flounder like we expect him to. Then hopefully he'll be better prepared for when it counts - next year. and beyond

I think Shore's development is fantastic. Let's let him keep developing.

I tend to agree, but I also remember how lost Pearson looked in his first couple of call ups. I would like to see Shore get in a few games a couple of times this season so the Kings can see what they have in him against NHL competition.

Consider this though. What if Shore comes up and looks like Voynov did in his first couple of call ups? It wouldn't certainly give Dean a level of comfort and expand his options for this season.

Totally agree. In sure we will see him at some point. I don't mean let's shut him out altogether--I'm just saying it would be foolhardy to trade richards under the presumption that shore is ready to take his or stolls place.

Yeah, and that is definitely not Dean's "you have to pay your dues style". Now that the Voynov cap space is no longer a problem this season Dean can take some time to figure out his next move.

Say the Kings do make a move involving Nolan for a pick/prospect. I could see Shore and Weal taking turns going up and down as the 13th forward with some limited game action in the NHL.

Why the **** would you deal Mike Richards for David Clarkson? Really?
