I heard the ice crew would quit if the Kings acquired Lupul. They don't want to have to shovel any body parts off the ice. The guy would likely break apart trying to play Kings style hockey.

And 5.2M is a lot of money to pay for someone who is constantly out.

Yeah, and that is definitely not Dean's "you have to pay your dues style". Now that the Voynov cap space is no longer a problem this season Dean can take some time to figure out his next move.

Say the Kings do make a move involving Nolan for a pick/prospect. I could see Shore and Weal taking turns going up and down as the 13th forward with some limited game action in the NHL.

I'm in agreement here. I think Nolan will be the one to go if anyone to make some space. It's the most conservative move and with the most minimal risk although the hit is small at $700k. It does allow the easing in of a new player without messing up the dynamics that will cost a few games or positioning come playoff time.

$700,000 now I think translates into $2-$3 million at the trade deadline, so it'd give us room to add a piece or maybe take on a higher salary in a trade.

There was a fair bit of discussion about the cap not going up. The latest update has it reaching $73 million next season.

Naturally, if the Canadian dollar drops more, the $73 million figure would likely drop as well.

That's more than everyones cap crunch model in this thread. I think the highest was 72 million. So shocker, the cap won't be a problem even with the crappy Canada dollar. Just like some of us said it wouldn't be.,..

Worrying about it from one season to the next, is probably not a good plan.

It comes with the territory of trying to keep together a two-time cup winner.

To a certain degree, yes. However, Dean doesn't just give players whatever they want to stay. Case in point, look at the Gaborik deal.

I imagine Gaborik wanted term, which he got.

...and Dean wanted a lower than market cap hit, which he got. It can be a mutually beneficial contract. I'm just saying that if a certain player walks in this summer and asks for $70M for 7 years, that Dean isn't just going to bend over and give it to him.

I am guessing you are referring to Kopitar, he cannot walk this summer as he still has one more year on his deal.
An he would get more than 10M/yr on the open market in two seasons so sign me up for 7 year 70M, although 8 year $80Mil sounds better to me.

I would not take that risk the way Kopitar has played recently, and by recently I mean the last 50 games or so.

I am well aware that Kopitar has another year remaining on his deal after this season, but we are also all aware that if something doesn't get done during the summer or early next season, that it probably means that the two sides are fairly far apart in some aspect of negotiating a new contract.

If Kopitar posts a career worse year at the prime age of 27(which he is on pace to do), and posts another one next season...

He is not even sniffing 8 million a year in UFA, let alone 10 million from the Kings.

This career worse start really has to be a one year deal thing with Kopi, if he posts two subpar years back to back, it will pretty much derail his career.

The guy is 27, not 30+ years of age.

Now the Kopitar war has spilled into the Richards thread. This is quite the turn of events.
