Pretty much, but hey 16 year buyout, and ******** on a guy that sacrificed his body to bring this team 2 cups is much easier.

Shore/Andy, neither one of these is going to cut it in the playoffs. The position is going to need to be filled if this team wants a shot at going for the cup. Bet on Richards recovering or 2 bets you know won't get it done. Shore even if he plays to the best of his abilities leaves too many boxes unchecked.

Sutter guaranteed that a long buyout penalty was the only possible outcome. How about getting the guy some help?

If you look at points per game, Richards outscored Stoll. That is with Richards getting a lot of time on the 4th line and Stoll getting power play time. Maybe you can argue Stoll was better on defense, but there's a reason he's making 900k for the NYR now. Brown scored at a similar rate to Richards in points per game, also getting powerplay time. Brown finished with a whopping -17 last year backed by the 4th (tie) best defense in the league. I get a team like Calgary with a terrible goal differential is going to have a ton of negatives and there are some decent players with big negative numbers.... When you are on one of the better defensive teams and you have a player break out of the pack it's really telling. Right it was bad luck...

It all worked out for the best. Team couldn't come together to help one of their own out. I've personally seen a few friends deal with addiction, it really helps if they have someone that are there for them. Even though they probably don't want the help at the time at the time. For a league that has guys playing through injuries and coming back early to get back into playoff games they should have a better way of dealing with pain killers and the problems they cause.

To get back to contending mode the Kings need to fill the 3C. Shore is going to get eaten alive in the playoffs, especially if he gets stuck with Brown on his line. Add to that needing another top 4 D. The money from that only comes from being able to dump Brown, which is unlikely given that contract. So betting on Richards to recover had about as much a chance as anything to get this team back to contending. Maybe Lombardi can pull off a steal for a solid 3C, and top 4 D at the deadline, and manage to fit them under the cap.

Why bother getting bogged down... First in the Pacific *****es!!! Gunna get the "real" banner this year, eh Ducks fans?

probably alot of stuff I could have picked out of there. Some I agree with some I do not, but one thing I wanted to say is $900K>skating with an OHL team.

You all somehow are ignoring that Shore has a league leading 63% Corsi For and a 4th place low PDO of 89%. With that possession and a whole 11 points of PDO to rebound, Shore will end up doing fine. Anyone with eyes can see that he's had a whole lot of bad luck in the offensive department.

Richards got paid millions upon millions of dollars when he was here. Now he's getting paid hundreds of thousands of dollars per year, for the next 16 years, with no obligation at all.

Best of luck to the guy. I hope he gets everything figured out. But saying that he got "**** on" is absolute nonsense.

Agreed. There's a lot trending up in Shore's game and if Lewis-Shore-Brown (this is the actual shocking part, haha) can continue dominating possession vs. other third lines we're fine for now. The production has to pop for someone at some point. Very precious few third lines around the league that have the potential to be better than that one.

Trolfoli I'm not going to dig into the stats again but pitting Richards vs. Stoll in any meaningful way is futile because they were both abysmal players by any metric, playing time and linemates be damned. No one here wants the worst for Richards, but to go back and pretend he'd be better than even Andreoff is, sadly, wrong at this point. If he comes back, will he be better? Almost certainly. But it doesn't seem like that was going to happen with the Kings.

100% correct. Shore and Andreoff are better players than Richards is today. Sutter didn't do this to Richards, Lombardi didn't do this to Richards, Richards did this to Richards.

We need a picture of the world's smallest violin to play for Richards's sorrows.

Did we really need to dig up a whole new round of *****ing about Richards' play? He was bad in the end, everyone knows this, but it's over with. Can't we all just move on?

There will be Richards thoughts/threads all the way up until 2031, unfortunately.

Hell, the Isles had to deal with Yashin thoughts until recently too, so there's that.

And sometimes the way to move on is not to click on and post on these threads...

just a thought...

In the name of "What is this I don't even..."

First of all, it's the teammates' fault for not helping Richards, no responsibility on Richards to help himself?

And you said Sutter set Richards up to fail?

And that Richards was a better option compared to Shore and Andreoff? Remember that Lombardi preferred to chance losing Richards for nothing by waiving him. And 29 other teams didn't want to "give him a chance" or"get him help." That's not Sutter's fault.

And what's with that snide remark about the "real" banner? Weren't you getting on Sutter about his teams coasting in the regular season last year? Now being atop the division is grounds for snarkiness?

Aside from your pro-Richards agenda, do you even know what you're arguing? Is it really possible EVERYONE ELSE is at fault for the fall from grace by one person?

Richards' on an ELC is a completely different asset than Richards making 6 million. Just saying... The contract forced Lombardi's hand more than any other variable. I guarantee Richards is still in the organization in some capacity if he's making Andreoff/Shore money. Lombardi liked his intangibles too much.

No, we can't. This is the Kings board. And he is Mike Richards. And that means threads and posts until the year 9595.

Someone will for sure give him a PTO and I agree with what you're saying, but we have to be careful not to confuse "some org will give him a tryout" with "he'd still be an effective King."

Back in the day there was a guy on the other site who was named "Rasman27", and all he would do was go in and defend Erik Rasmussen anytime anyone had anything negative to say (which was a lot with Erik Rasmussen), it was like he had some kind of bat signal that told him where to go. Sometimes I feel the same vibe here. Except Rasman27 quietly moved on after the Kings dumped Rasmussen.

The funniest thing was when someone made a joke about Sutter calling the border officials and telling them to search Ricards car, everyone had a good laugh, well except for one guy who said it was a possibility.

When it comes to Richards I guess blaming Sutter, Lombardi, Nolan, Clifford and Lewis wasn't enough, now it's just the whole team.

You are probably right, if Ethan Moreau and Trent Hunter got a chance then Richards likely will to. I would be shocked though if he stuck beyond a PTO, he has played at an AHL caliber level since about December 2013, and now he has baggage. He would have to do a complete 180 on and off the ice to get back to the NHL.

If I remember correctly, Trent Hunter lead the team in goals and points in the preseason, then the season started.:D

You realize that Sutter basically decides how much ice time and on what line... and not much else right? Didn't choose to terminate, didn't have to opportunity to offer treatment instead.... Really didn't do anything but chose to give limited minutes to a guy who was playing **** hockey...

He still doesn't understand why Carter and Richards were broken up.

I don't know, man. There are only 202 posts more before Episode VIII gets closed.

With this bunch, I'd say it's even money we will see an Episode IX.
