Richards' on an ELC is a completely different asset than Richards making 6 million. Just saying... The contract forced Lombardi's hand more than any other variable. I guarantee Richards is still in the organization in some capacity if he's making Andreoff/Shore money. Lombardi liked his intangibles too much.

If Richards was at half his contract he's still probably the 4th line center.

You all somehow are ignoring that Shore has a league leading 63% Corsi For and a 4th place low PDO of 89%. With that possession and a whole 11 points of PDO to rebound, Shore will end up doing fine. Anyone with eyes can see that he's had a whole lot of bad luck in the offensive department.

I see shore getting targeted and exploited in the playoffs. Assuming a massive calamity doesn't strike the Kings before then and they end up missing. He's doing great though.

http://lakingsinsider.com/2015/11/19/shores-assets-quantifiable-in-metrics-not-production-yet/

Agreed. There's a lot trending up in Shore's game and if Lewis-Shore-Brown (this is the actual shocking part, haha) can continue dominating possession vs. other third lines we're fine for now. The production has to pop for someone at some point. Very precious few third lines around the league that have the potential to be better than that one.

Trolfoli I'm not going to dig into the stats again but pitting Richards vs. Stoll in any meaningful way is futile because they were both abysmal players by any metric, playing time and linemates be damned. No one here wants the worst for Richards, but to go back and pretend he'd be better than even Andreoff is, sadly, wrong at this point. If he comes back, will he be better? Almost certainly. But it doesn't seem like that was going to happen with the Kings.

Richards vs Stoll = crap.... that's the whole point. I said Richards was playing as good or better then Stoll/Williams/Brown on any given night... people want to bash Richards but won't admit those 3 were on the same level with him.

Lewis/Shore/Brown... say 10 goals a piece. 30 goals for the line.... I'd be shocked if that happens. There's dominating, and there's wasting time with the puck not accomplishing anything. Lets see, 2, 2, 1... 5 goals between them at 18 games, they are on pace for 22 goals this season between them. Lewis has 2 empty netters right?

All that aside, Lewis/Shore/Brown is not a 3rd line on a playoff team looking at making a deep run.

In the name of "What is this I don't even..."

First of all, it's the teammates' fault for not helping Richards, no responsibility on Richards to help himself?

And you said Sutter set Richards up to fail?

And that Richards was a better option compared to Shore and Andreoff? Remember that Lombardi preferred to chance losing Richards for nothing by waiving him. And 29 other teams didn't want to "give him a chance" or"get him help." That's not Sutter's fault.

And what's with that snide remark about the "real" banner? Weren't you getting on Sutter about his teams coasting in the regular season last year? Now being atop the division is grounds for snarkiness?

Aside from your pro-Richards agenda, do you even know what you're arguing? Is it really possible EVERYONE ELSE is at fault for the fall from grace by one person?

1) Have you ever seen addiction first hand? It's scary... Really helps to have people looking out for each other. In a league where guys are going to be dealing with beating their bodies up and being exposed to high powered pain killers they should have safe guards in place.

2)Sutter: Sutter took a bad situation and made it worse. That was always the point. Sutter missed the playoffs, and now the Kings have a 16 year buyout, and breaking in 3 rookies at the 3/4 C. There's Sutter ****ing Richards over, which I don't really care all that much about, and there's Sutter putting the team in a hole because of his actions. The Kings are effectively paying 3.72M for Shore to be the 3C this year. IMO Kings need to add a top 4D and a solid 3C for a deep playoff run. Outside of Lombardi finding a way of offloading Brown I don't see how that's going to happen. If the team isn't serious about making a deep playoff run why go with a 16 year penalty vs just riding the bad contract out like Brown's?

3) "the Real Banner": Kinda a shot at the Ducks... winning the regular season and not making it all the way. 'Cause Ducks. Just I see a lot of similarities to the Kings this year. Team is at the top of the division because the Pacific turned into a train wreck this year. The Kings are playing quite well despite glaring deficiencies.

4)Who's fault is it from Richards fall from grace? I don't really care. Just tired of listening to people bash Richards and make excuses for Sutter and other players. He deserves better and more respect from the team and "fans".

I don't get the Sutter arguments at all. It's like blaming your Dad for the time you got caught doing graffiti when you were 17.

You knew better, but were just a dumbass. Coaches, parents can only do so much. If you screw up your life, it's your own ****ing fault.

may as well throw trainers and conditioning coaches under the bus with sutter

Or Bailey for that matter.

But hey, if MR came out and said "I have a problem" and everyone turned their back on him, that would obviously be different. To date, MR hasn't even commented on the matter publicly, but privately, if he wants help, he needs to take the first step provided he feels he has a problem. He can certainly afford it with his salary. Probably the best out there.

Everyone knows that bailey not stoll is the true kings drug mule

how is any of that Sutter's fault? you can be serious with this post, right? "Sutter missed the playoffs"...its not like he can go out there and QB the power play. completely ludicrous 'points' in this post

Just a little snippet on Mike from an interview with the Ontario Reign's Nic Dowd:

JFTC: Speaking of Richards, when he played in Manchester last year, did he have any positive impact on you?

ND: Yeah! For the situation he was in, I thought he handled it terrific. I was lucky, I got to sit next to him in the locker room. I didn't bother him too much, but I got to listen and talk to him a little bit every day. The guy really handled himself like a true professional that he was, which didn't surprise me. I mean, he's won everything in the book. He's been around for a long time.

Hmm. Bump?

http://globalnews.ca/news/2385468/drug-case-against-nhler-mike-richards-to-be-put-over-once-again/

I have no idea whether these kinds of continuances are par for the course.

They are.

In every ****ing case ever. Having lived the dream, I can tell you it's the rare case that gets heard on the first try.

Or the second.

Or the third.

And one wonder why the criminal justice systems is broken in the USA. And in Canada.

And every-****ing-where else in the world.

So, if I may add:

Please don't bump this every time this case gets continued. Unless you want your great-grandchildren to read it, because that's what's gonna happen. They DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER to set a date in January. That should tell you all you need to know about his case. It will probably be settled in some fashion before it ever gets heard.

What about the 10-15 teams that were supposedly seriously interested in signing him according to his agent?

I have to imagine, whether that's true or not, that any team will wait until his legal issues are resolved one way or another.

Actually, they did- January 28th. Crown was asked by the defense to "investigate an issue related to the case". God knows what that may entail and you're probably right- it may well be settled before it ever gets to an actual evidence based, statement of facts, hearing.

you've became my favourite poster.
Also for explaining what being addicted means.

Hats off

I'd hope that if there were any sliver of truth to that, Richards ought to be using this time to work his ass off and be ready the minute his legal issues are settled.

At this point with the new date if the legal problems are what's holding up a deal he really has another year to be honest. Feb 29 is the trade deadline and the last day he could sign and be playoff eligible. Granted he could come in make some kind if plea and be done that day.

His NHL career is as likely as Rosamund Pike showing up at my office in a Z06 and inviting me over for Netflix and chill. Not happening.

I agree RP, I mean it would have to be a complete 180 on and off the ice for him to be an NHL'er. He may get an offer from someone looking to catch lightning in a bottle but his last 120 or so games as a King were about as bad as you can get.

Hope Richie gets the help he needs. Still love the guy and appreciate what he did here and was a big part of changing from rebuild to competitors in 2012.. Not to mention he was our best player in the 2013 playoff run.
