So basically Brown is on drugs? Is that what he was saying?

Brown said the word drugs which we can only assume is referring to the prescription drug that Richards was caught with. These silly writers are running with the word drugs like it is referring to illicit drugs.

Yup, Carchidi has an unhealthy obsession with Richards. You can tell he couldn't wait till he got that to print, considering it was his second Richards story of the day...he's been waiting for that moment for years. Along with many of the fans, it seems, in order to discount anything else.

Over/under on him chest-thumping about winning a trade today? I mean, forget humanity, there's important stuff going on here!

What a reductive and smug post.

Those folks are a curious bunch. We were all brothers a few years ago with the exchange of players and front office exec histories etc. And it was kinda "cute" when people were saying "Flyers West" at first. Then the Kings used Flyers ingredients and created their own recipe for the ultimate success while Philadelphia's cooks couldn't make toast without burning it.

Isn't it kind a general thing with most Philly sports fans? [Yes, I was careful not to say ALL Philly sports fans]

I mean, they have a reputation for a reason.

Anyone here ever hear Bill Burr kill his entire stage time ragging on the city and it's fans? It's must-listen material....

Yup.

No one refers to the Kings has "Flyers West" anymore. Given the nature of the team's failures, that tag is now properly applied to Calgary.

Or Edmonton. Except Edmonton possibly has a bright future. Philly doesn't have anything to look forward to (not that I can tell, anyway).

Maybe Gostisbehere.

There were some STAUNCH defenses of Paul Holmgren and his moves too. Quite frankly, it was laughable. He was so gracious to move aside to allow Hextall to be GM.

Philly has some great defensive prospects. In addition to Gost you got Provorov, Sanheim and Morin.
Couts is still only 22, and they have some youth up front.
Philly has some good pieces that should be ready once some ugly contracts start coming off the books thus allowing hextall to build around those prospects.

Nothing really shocking in Brown's quotes about MR's drug problem, all the whispers about his time in Philly, Dean's quotes from a couple of weeks ago, Burrows antics in the 2012 playoffs., basically worst kept secret in the NHL.

As far as Richards signing with someone, if he shows he can play someone would give him a chance on like a 2 way deal for around a million. If you can improve a team they will forget about past off ice issues, the biggest obstacle to Richards returning to the NHL is that he hasn't shown the ability to be an NHL player in quite some time, especially since he likely would be in a bottom six role, teams are looking for guys to provide some physicality or defensive play, which Richards provided none of in LA the past couple years.

He'd still be an upgrade over any 3/4 center the Kings are currently rolling out.

Edit: Sorry AndyAndy fans.

That is simply false, and I am far from an Andreoff fan.

Richards final 120 or so games as a King was as bad as I can remember anyone playing for the Kings. It was a notable accomplishment if Richards went a game without committing a glaring mistake that lead to a goal.

Nick Shore is doing a fine job IMO. Not sure what people expect of him 50 games into his NHL career.

Playing center in the NHL it tough, and Shore is already better than both Stoll and Richards were in their last years here.

That's gospel right there.

At least he's scoring at their pace.

You knew this question was coming about his lifestyle [cough cough partying days] :

Brown was asked about Richards' lifestyle.

"I don't even think it was the partying," he said. "Honestly, when you live in LA, he was a pretty quiet homebody."

Not sure what the **** you were watching the past season, but Richards clearly didn't even belong in the NHL. And I love Mike Richards...just feel bad for the guy.

Would love to see a meaningful comeback for the guy, but just don't see it happening. Not at all.

Sutter ruined Mike Richards' career by not playing Carter on his wing. Amirite?

What a reductive and smug post.

ya lets not pretend that the dependency on Oxy has anything to do with the hits and injuries he has had.
One lead to the other. It truly does not matter at this point. All that I want is for him to recover and get back in the game (but not with a divisional team)

Pretty much, but hey 16 year buyout, and ******** on a guy that sacrificed his body to bring this team 2 cups is much easier.

Shore/Andy, neither one of these is going to cut it in the playoffs. The position is going to need to be filled if this team wants a shot at going for the cup. Bet on Richards recovering or 2 bets you know won't get it done. Shore even if he plays to the best of his abilities leaves too many boxes unchecked.

Sutter guaranteed that a long buyout penalty was the only possible outcome. How about getting the guy some help?

If you look at points per game, Richards outscored Stoll. That is with Richards getting a lot of time on the 4th line and Stoll getting power play time. Maybe you can argue Stoll was better on defense, but there's a reason he's making 900k for the NYR now. Brown scored at a similar rate to Richards in points per game, also getting powerplay time. Brown finished with a whopping -17 last year backed by the 4th (tie) best defense in the league. I get a team like Calgary with a terrible goal differential is going to have a ton of negatives and there are some decent players with big negative numbers.... When you are on one of the better defensive teams and you have a player break out of the pack it's really telling. Right it was bad luck...

It all worked out for the best. Team couldn't come together to help one of their own out. I've personally seen a few friends deal with addiction, it really helps if they have someone that are there for them. Even though they probably don't want the help at the time at the time. For a league that has guys playing through injuries and coming back early to get back into playoff games they should have a better way of dealing with pain killers and the problems they cause.

To get back to contending mode the Kings need to fill the 3C. Shore is going to get eaten alive in the playoffs, especially if he gets stuck with Brown on his line. Add to that needing another top 4 D. The money from that only comes from being able to dump Brown, which is unlikely given that contract. So betting on Richards to recover had about as much a chance as anything to get this team back to contending. Maybe Lombardi can pull off a steal for a solid 3C, and top 4 D at the deadline, and manage to fit them under the cap.

Why bother getting bogged down... First in the Pacific *****es!!! Gunna get the "real" banner this year, eh Ducks fans?
