Mike Richards IV: Started From The Bottom, Still Here *MOD WARNING Post #194*

Since Mike Richards got sent down Jan 26th.

Stol: 18GP 1G 0A 1P -6.

Hmmmm.

Not the Defensive dynamo people try and make Stoll out to be. Fact is, Richards/Stoll have both failed to make the Kings better this season, they can't provide what Sutter wants.

It's why Nick Shore's ice time keeps increasing.

Stoll hasn't been as good in his own end lately. He was miles ahead of Richards in that area when Richards was sent down though, and last season, and the season before that...

The #3 center position is something I think Dean has to address over the summer. Maybe Richards can do something with that role. The odds are against it IMO.

If this was Toronto, they would make a TV series about this. Mike Richards Saga: The Mysterious Whereabouts

Strong rumor: I have a friend of a friend of an enemy that works at TSC, said some interesting things are going on. The boxing room in the back where Kings/Lakers guys go to get some more intense workouts is apparently being refitted with chain link fence. I'm guessing a Stoll/Richards cage match for 4C is in the works, and that's undoubtedly why Richards is in town.

Less credible rumor: Doan is in town well early before their game next Monday to work as cut-man/ring physician.

No, no, no. Shane Doan is an orthopedic surgeon.

HA! Like one of those bigfoot shows!
That was funny.

Poor Richards walkabout?

Poor Richards Failmanac?

I think that Richards is on his way back to the line up (obviously I know but still) and that he will be a really good add to the team once he does. Granted he isn't going to be the Richards of old but if he can just play solid hockey for us he would be a good add.

It's hysterical what a bitter, old man you are.

Hey punk!!! Get off Ron's lawn!!!

The only thing I've ever seen him post on this board is talking **** about Mayor's Manor.

Then you need to read more, because Ron is prolific on a number of subjects. Maybe takeoff the blogger glasses? The Mayor is after all just a fan that has tried to turn being a fan into some type of business. I value his opinions no more or no less than the opinion of any knowledgeable fan.

Who knows what is going on though, it could be that the Kings know one way or the other they owe this guy a ton of money and they want to see where he stands physically before this summer when they have to decide just how they go about getting rid of this. These results may be something that a potential trade partner would want to see? Maybe they are looking for something that could warrant LTIR, you never know.

I believe once the season ends that Richards is under no contractual obligation at all to do any kind of testing unelss he agrees to it. Who knows how good his terms are with DL and management, if you were demoted from your job and shipped across the country to New England a couple of days after getting engaged you may not be the happiest guy in the world and could easily say screw you with regards to returning to LA for testing once the Monarchs/Kings season ended.

The Kings are 12-6-1 and Richards former linemates are playing the best hockey of their careers since the demotion, I just don't see a reason to bring him up, we'll see though.

I think this is the answer. With the schedule in the AHL (mostly weekend games), the training staff has been able to closely monitor Richards' workouts during the week. Richards is likely in LA to determine if his baseline level of fitness has increased since he was sent down.

Now if Stoll keeps playing the way he has been lately, something else might very well happen.

Do the Kings even have the cap space to recall Richards*? They added Sekera(though he's still cheap), damn we need capgeek.....

It just doesn't make any sense to ship Richards* all the way to LA to do "testing." Something is up, and we may be seeing Richards* back sooner than the playoffs.

doesn't he do all the GDT? If so then how dare you call him out I love those

Every opinion expressed here is subject to debate, no matter the poster.

Besides, I think Ron relishes a good dust-up, otherwise he'd get bored. He'll be alright.

True, but it's pretty obvious that Ron makes lots of posts that are not related to Mayor's Manor.

Sure it does, the Kings own Richards, if they want him to fly across country to see if he's physically fit then Richards does it. Richards earned this and it sends a good message to the rest of the players, this could be your life. LA used to be a place where NHL player careers came to die, not the case anymore.

I am actually a happy old man.

Happy, happy, happy.

Happy.

What is he, your father or something? You sure get sensitive when I call him out, but I only call him out when he gets something wrong, which is fast becoming a full-time job.

Did he, or did he not, miss the location where Richards is physically practicing. Did he, or did he not, just quote others in that lame article and not have anything new? I mean, I went to that article and was underwhelmed.

That very well may be. But I don't think Mike Richards even in 2013(his worst full season), had a stretch of Hockey this bad.

Stoll: 33 GP
3 Goals
0 Assists
Minus 5
13 minor penalties

That's awful for someone like Stoll, with his ice time. Just awful. Will be interesting to see how Sutter handles Stoll moving forward, if he continues to play like this.

You would think after Richards was waived, no one would feel safe and would play their butts off. Stoll has done the opposite and has been worse than Richards was, which is no small feat.

I was just about to post that.

Stoll's game has fallen off a cliff since Richards got sent down. Only Dustin Brown in the last 20 games, has been worse than Stoll on the defensive side of the puck. Offensively, it's not even worth showing the numbers. Stoll is easily the Kings worst forward at generating offense of any kind.

Here is what I think.

Mike Richards in a 3rd line, supporting role with decent hockey players is better than Mike Richards in a 4th line grinding role.

Mike Richards in a defensive role may or may not be worse than current Jarret Stoll.

Whatever happens with these two I don't want Shore out of the lineup as a result of any shuffling.

For a center, having ZERO assist in 33 games says a lot. It's not like he's playing with scrubs either. It's really become a weakness on the 3rd line, having a center who can't play the position anymore. Stoll has now become a one dimensional faceoff man.

Worst on the team at that also.
