The eye test? Are you a scout?

I was before with McKeen's, but all I'm referring to now is what each of us do, watch the games. Any average fan should know that stats don't always indicate a players true value or even his performance. That increases when the stat in question is one that can be affected by any other player on the ice, such as plus-minus.

Stats are generally a good measuring stick, some more than others, but to simply say a guy has a bad plus-minus and therefore is "terrible" is misguided. True, it could be accurate that the player is terrible, but it requires more observation that to simply look up his plus-minus numbers.

If it was so simple to say a bad or terrible plus-minus equals a bad or terrible player, Columbus would never have traded for Johnson in the first place and a lot of scouts would be out of work as websites like hockeydb or eliteprospects can give you that information. Yet there's no doubt in my mind or most other posters on this board that if Columbus were to trade Johnson right now, they'd still fetch a decent return for him. That can't be simply chalked up to untapped potential either, Johnson is 28 now. He's as good as he's likely to ever get.

At what point does he get called up?

When Lombardi's convinced he's committed himself to a higher effort level and conditioning.

It's great that he's putting up the points down there and I've certainly been checking every box score since his demotion, but offensive production alone isn't going to get him his job back.

Or (just maybe)a team thinks that he just needs a chance of scenes.

Sure, with Richards playing well on the Monarchs some other GM may be interested... but then if Richards is playing better does that make it more or less likely that Lombardi will pay 30% of his salary for 5 years so Richards can be productive on another team?

Lots of entertainment to come....

Richards to a team wanting to begin a rebuild right now is very plausible to me.

-They want to tank and scoop up top 5 draft picks
-Richards' contract would help them reach the cap floor
-His contract comes off the books after the standard 5 year rebuild is done
-Veteran leadership in the mean time

There are smart people running Toronto now. I don't know if it will happen, but I buy their interest.

Not too excited about getting a Leafs players for Richards. Didn't we do the Leafs thing 2 years ago?

If they are willing to eat 65% of the contract then that is who we deal with. And the return probably won't be anything significant. It certainly won't be a guy who was gift wrapped a top 6 role like the last Leaf we acquired.

It would be funny seeing Richards centering Clarkson for the most media hyped team in North America. The Toronto media would have a field day.

This is what worries me about a TO trade... What could be coming back?
