Sekera is a damn good defenseman, and that is no secret. His price is going to be quite high and I don't think the Kings will win the bidding war.

that and I think he tests the market in July and will get a massive pay day

Let's not get crazy here. He's a misplaced second pairing guy (first on the very-bad Hurricanes) who has a total +4 rating in 9 seasons.

He might get overpaid in the off-season, but that's all it will be. Overpaid.

Then again, one can argue that a +6 rating for seven years in Buffalo means something, except for the fact that he had Ryan Miller backstopping him in goal there.

Can he help the Kings? No doubt, but he's not a world class defenseman. He's a serviceable second-pairing guy.

One thing is for sure. Whomever Lombardi trades for it will be unexpected. He usually never goes for the guy who the Kings have been rumored after.

serviceable 2nd pairings get paid what ~4.5M as RFA's. What will the get as UFA's?
Especially as Sekera has shown that if needed he can step up and play #1 minutes.

He did with Regehr. We all knew that was coming

Buffalo fans had a pretty crazy high asking price too

Unless Marian Gaborik uses the Slovakian Mind Trick on his countryman to convince him that chasing the big bucks over possibly winning a Stanley Cup would be a bad idea.

"It's not the big money you're looking for."

Seriously, I find it kind of funny. Everything I read indicates that both Toffoli and Pesrson are untouchable in Dean's eyes.

As it should be.

Damn straight. You don't give up our future unless we're getting something incredible in return.

Odd numbered year= no trade
Remember back, when we all complained about that player "Capspace". How big he was but did nothing to help the team. I kind of miss him. I mean we did trade him for a couple of cups, but he could be handy right about now.

Rob Scuderi is a career +18. Before this season he was a +9.

Plus minus is useless in validating a career. I'd take Jack Johnson back and he's a -116. That doesn't mean he's a terrible defenseman.

And Rob Scuderi got $3.85 mill for a cap hit with LA. In 2009. Sekera gets $5 million likely and I wouldn't be shocked if it's $5.5 million like Orpik.

Damn straight. You don't give up our future unless we're getting something incredible in return.

Especially when that future is also the present. These kids aren't prospects, they are regular pieces of our line up and are playoff proven kids.

We traded for Regehr in 2013. Odd number year means nothing. If we hang around the playoff bubble, I'd be stunned if DL doesn't do a deal.

Which I can only hope holds true in regards to Phaneuf, Franson, Gardiner and Polak... yikes

The trade deadline is beer goggles for all these players.

This...so much this.

All the rumored guys seemed like fringe players until this year. Now, all of a sudden they are going to be making 5m next season as free agents.

Blek

Vermette is the top forward get......blek.

Here is hoping for a Forbort miracle so we can avoid the crap that is out there for extorted prices.

Not to mention the trade for that unemployed pancake eater in 2011.
