I wonder what fitting in will be like, MR has a guaranteed NHL contract and will be making 100x times what most of his teammates are making. I'm sure everyone will be professional but that is a crazy difference in pay. Then you factor in the lifestyle in the NHL you travel by chartered jet to world class cities like Chicago, New York and Boston and stay in five star hotels. In the AHL it's traveling by bus to places like Allentown, Rockford and Hamilton and staying at cheaper hotels. And that is not even factoring in moving from the South Bay to Manchester, NH in the heart of winter.

BTW, speaking of saving money, I was having dinner at Benny's Chophouse in Chicago a few weeks ago and I paid with my Kings credit card and the bartender was telling me that he served a few of the Ducks players earlier in the year, and he said 6 guys ran up an almost 3k bill. So these guys do live pretty large on the road, even though I assume NHL players do a better job of saving their money than other pro athletes do.

Cherry Hill, right? He spends the summer there...that's why in those summer Cup celebration videos he is seen with Justin Williams, who also spends summers out there.

That is 5 hours plus to Manchester.

I am talking if Richards has to stay on the East for extended time(off-season). Not during the season. There is no guarantee Richards comes back to the NHL this season.

He may have to make the East Coast his home (until the AHL moves West).

Richards has to change his game, and off-season program. The Kings are pretty much stuck with him. Richards is not going to correct his game and play style over night. It's going to take awhile.

Provided Mike puts in the work.

Has he reported yet? Any offical word?

He's there. He'll be wearing #18
tomorrow. I think Mayors Manor or Jon Rosen reported it.

I'm pissed. I wanna go to the game, but it sounding like there will be too much snow to make the trip.

I really miss living in Southern California...

I'm glad he's there. I really hope he can make the best of the situation and then return to us.

Has the AHL ever canceled a game due to weather ? I can't remember one.

Lots of snow (can) make driving dangerous.

I haven't lived on the East Coast since I was 5 but that's gotta be like a 6 hour drive. I'm sure he could find something closer.

off-season, not during season. Till the AHL moves West. I don't expect Richards back in the NHL till next season.

It would probably be a good idea for Mike not to go back home to Canada this off-season. Obviously what ever Richards is doing in his off-season's in Canada, is not working. Not sure what the Kings provide training wise to AHL players. Mike might be on his own.

His career is on the line.

He still has a house in Manhattan Beach like most of the other players, doesn't he?

I could see him spending the time in NJ with Carter if he's there, back in Kenora, or LA.

I agree Richards needs to change his game and off-season program.

If I were Richards, I would be in LA all summer working out with the Kings strength coach or some other specialist in hockey conditioning so it's obvious to the Kings staff how big a commitment I'd be making to improving my game. Get a good sports nutritionist. Work with some specialist hockey coaches. Maybe a sports psychologist. Richards must know at this point that he has to approach every off-season like he's Jerry Rice if he wants to be back with the Kings. It seems like whoever he was working with in Kenora doesn't cut it.

It'd be awesome to see him come back playing better, hopefully at a level something like the $5 million player he's being paid to be.

Edit: I was typing this post before I even saw your reply to my previous post. We said almost the exact same thing about what he needs to do this off-season. Hopefully he'd agree with us and makes it happen.

You're right.

I stand corrected then. That's definitely more than a 6 hour drive.

Follow his fiance on instragram. He goes boating and fishing.

I remember when Jordan played AA ball in Birmingham...He bought them a new Team Bus and would regularly pick up the check to let players keep their per diem. Come Rick...cough up the money! :naughty:

I still don't buy the conditioning thing, or atleast as the major factor.

If MR truly was out of shape then he lied to Dean's face when Dean went to Kenora to check in on him.

There have been so many supposed reasons for MR's collapse.. conditioning, concussions, shoulder, knee, viral infection, Sutter, linemates. I still think the simple answer is he just isn't a very good hockey player anymore, perhaps it's a combination of many of those things that caused this collapse, but I have a hard time believing he is the type of guy who would lie to Dean's face about conditioning. And I don't know how conditioning causes you to not be able to shoot, not be able to handle a pass and make terrible defensive reads.

He may been in shape, but not the type of fitness he needs to change his game.

Teemu had to change his fitness program to match his new playing style.

Mike Richards has lost some hockey IQ, that's pretty apparent. Richards shows flashes of his old self, but that's just it. It's not consistent or even game to game.

He has one decent game then five below average one's. So it's not all gone. Just not consistent.

I think that's a work ethic, and motivation problem. He needs to change how he does things on the ice.

Stoll did it in one off-season, everyone here gave Stoll credit for changing his game.

It's not. It's a crutch because he isn't jacked. Just like the 10 month illness was a crutch. Fact is, I think is body is simply shot. Regardless of how he's failed to meet expectations, he's still a quality, character guy. He's not gonna lie to Dean's face over something he agreed on. I don't believe it one bit.
