And I think if there were ever a REAL wakeup call to something that's actually fixable, this is it. Last chance. The Penner "El Cid" clause. I think it's a combination of a lot of things, though, so we'll see what happens next.

That's what I see.

Not just one thing, a combination of things. Mike Richards needs to realize he is not 22, or even 27 anymore.

He can't have off-seasons of fishing, relaxing most of it. You also can't work out or train like you did at 20-25. Your body is different.

You can't eat certain food you use too, (if you want to maintain a high level of fitness).

He has lost speed, and hockey IQ. That means he has to change his game accordingly.

Just like Stoll did.

If Richards could get back to 15 goals and 30 assists, while not coasting his team on the D side of the puck. He May be able to save his career.

At the very least the Kings would then be able to probably move him in a trade, if both sides are not happy.

Cause right now the Kings are stuck with Richards. Everyone better hope and pray the guy gets his game in the right direction.

The King's won't be buying out or trading that contract.

Stoll is actually a really good example, he's had a lot of the same brain trauma and injuries as well as that arthritis deal. He's now a yoga freak et. al. He should live with the guy this summer.

Stoll's biggest issue was that he was woefully miscast as a 2nd line center and #1 unit PP point man for three seasons. Only when the Kings brought in Mike Richards BC was Stoll able to assume a roll that put him in a position to succeed.

Stoll's offensive game has dropped off dramatically, his hockey IQ has diminished as well.

All that started the moment he hit LA. He wasn't as fast or quick as he was in EDM. It's a reason(one of them) EDM traded him.

It's not all because he was playing second line minutes. The guy had to accept he was no longer a top minute, top six Center.

He changed his game accordingly.

Even with the change, Stoll is still declining. he probably shouldn't even be playing third line minutes right now.

I am rooting for Mike Richards, because it's the only way the Kings get out of his awful contract.

Richards has to succeed for the Kings to get any relief from the mess that he is.

Wonder what the Kings will look like down the middle next season, it must be killing DL a guy who values a strong blue line and strength down the middle to see his club this year.

I think Shore will be on the team but probably in the 4C role next season, the Kings should be actively on the market for a quality 3C who could effectively check another teams 2nd offensive threat.

Nick Shore was a -2 in 6 minutes of ice time last night. Ouch.

Andreoff back in?

I doubt it. In all fairness to Shore, goal 1 was off McNabbs glove, and goal two was a turnover by Nolan in the offensive zone after they had a solid cycle going with Shore more than once keeping the play alive.

He's still learning the pace of the game, and I expect him only to get better.

Toffoli went up and down how many times over 2 seasons before he stuck. Pearson went up and down too, taking his taste of the NHL back to the A to improve his game so he'd be ready the next time. I figured Shore would go the same path, or at least, that would be Plan A.

Shore is not going to wow anyone, the guy has a solid game and foundation.

Check your expectations though, Shore is not Toffoli/Pearson. Shore is a guy that has to outwork most of his opponents, and work hard for production. If you expect Shore to be anything more than a third line center that puts up (10-12 goals and 20 -25 assist in the NHL). You are setting yourself up for disappointment.

There will be lots, and lots, of growing pains.

Vermette and Michalek

Don't see where the dollars come from for both.

This contract is going to crush this team for a couple of years, hopefully they can get some young kids to step in for cheap like TT and TP did, but as long as they are paying 5.75 to a fourth line center or 4.8 in dead space it's going to be tough to add anyone from outside the organization.

Give it up on Andreoff. He's the Davis Drewiske of forwards. Shore will be fine.

Shore hasn't had a fight yet, he is worthless on the fourth line.

The fans demand Nolan/Andreoff/Biz Nasty, with Clifford on the third line to add even more toughness.

Aren't you tired Herby? It's late there, lol. I'm falling asleep and it's barely 11.

My ideal scenario -

Gaborik - Kopitar - Brown
King - Carter - Toffoli
Clifford - Stoll - Williams
Nolan - Shore - Lewis

Muzzin - Doughty
Martinez - Regehr
McNabb - Green

Quick

Left work early today and taking a sick day tomorrow, schedule is way out of wack.

Hopefully I'm not coming down with the 10 month viral infection that's been going around this thread.

When you put it that way....I'd say we definitely need a guy like Winnik for the bottom 6. To say nothing of our defense.

If Shore turns into a guy that can take faceoffs during critical situations in his own zone, PK well, and chip in with some offense, I am fine with this.

As Kopitar and Carter get older Sutter is going to have to cut back on their minutes some. The best place to do that is to replace them on the PK. Hopefully, guys like Shore, Pearson, and Toffoli can pick up those minutes.

Pretty sure both of those goals were Browns fault.

"Mike going down, I hope he's back soon," 2013-14 playoff MVP Justin Williams told ESPN.com on Thursday. "He's part of the family here. There's certainly just a big, empty spot without him [that] I feel.

So the Kings play better for the rest of the season, make the playoffs, Richards gets called back up, they win the Cup again, and Brown gives it to Richards first. No playoff records set or broken by the Kings this year. Just a sappy Hollywood ending.
