Well if you don't want to trade Mike we'll take Adam Engstrom off your hands before you lose him to waivers.

Kid ain't eligible to waivers until 27-28.

Matheson for a two 2nd rounders gets it done

No it won't. BTW aren't you tired of playing the Main Board apologist role?

Vancouver should sell and rebuild. They suck.

No they don't, but if they end up having to trade both JT Miller and EP40 this year they may have seen their window close before it even ever opened.

If you’re telling me, that in the offseason we will get more than two 2nd round picks…. Then I hope you’re right. He won’t get more than that, he’s not a good defender

The 15% would be a condition that of getting the 1st. Drop the 2nd.
Nah, no chance then.

Matheson has his limitations, but he's considerably more valuable, bothto the Habs and league-wide, than a late 1st, let alone with retention.

And in reality, with the way the Habs have performed the past ~6 weeks, there's less and less chance they would risk trading him at all.

Through the past 6 weeks, Habs are 9th in the league in the standings... Matheson leads the team in ice time (3min more per game than #2)...

I don't see Mailloux panning out as there are too many holes in his game for the NHL level.

What do you mean when you say not panning out? Not going to make the NHL or not going to be a top pairing or top 4D?

He's one of many who need time to develop. When this kid is 25+, he's going to be more mature and he will be a NHL defenseman. The problem is the time you have to wait for him to mature. A big mobile RD who skates very well and has a great shot.... Think no further than a Matheson type. Someone who will likely help with puck moving and points/goals but will need to be paired up with a stud. There are a fair amount of these in the NHL today

He is going to play some NHL games but I doubt that he is ever a top 4 Dman in the NHL for any length of time.

Habs have their top 4 right now and maybe Savard gets traded but Reinbacher is better and I venture Engstrom as well.

It sounds like Konyushkov is going to come over as well so there are 5 or 6 guys right now

Sure but his Hockey IQ is his biggest weakness and in the AHL he can get away with his physical skills, speed, shot ect but the next step he isn't going to be a bottom pairing type of guy who plays on the PK and I don't think his skillset will overcome the IQ problems at the NHL level.

Plus while he is trying to figure things out 3 non roster guys project as better all around Dmen for the NHL and the Habs will draft another Dman or 2 as well.

I also think that he and Struble are very similar in terms of NHL projection.

I honestly think it's still too early to know. There is too much there to ignore. A big mobile RD with a great shot but taking a while to learn how to be reliable. Doubt he reaches top pairing but top 4D paired up with a physical stay at home stud might be where he lands. Problem is that is likely age 25+. He's on track to take longer

I actually think the Habs have lots a solid pieces but at the same time, we have many pieces that will take years for them to touch their prime (age 25+ range). Look at where Evans is today at age 28. Same as it was with Lehkonen when we traded him.

A late first straight up or a 2nd and B level prospect should do it. Matheson at 20 min per game and some PP time is very valuable
