Desharnais and a 1st for Matheson seems reasonable, that said I really don't think Matheson is the type of defenseman that Vancouver should be targeting. He's a pure puck mover that's a tire fire defensively, you should only bring him in if you desperately need puck moving talent out of your 2nd or 3rd pair. I don't get that impression from Vancouver.

He and Myers as a pair would be an adventure, and not in a good way for Canucks fans.

Matheson is playing his offside with a raw rookie who creates almost as many chances for the opposition as he does for Montreal, judging him on current performance is misleading, pair him with someone steady and he’s a legit first pairing D. Honestly prefer prospects to picks even if we have to add to get someone NHL ready

They brought in carrier but they could ship savard out this year too and if they get rid of Matheson, carrier will be the lone experienced guy in the top 6.

I don't think the Habs will trade both Matheson and aavard in the same year without getting a vet back. More likely, I think only one of them gets traded this year.

I mean the Canucks are desperate for puck moving on their bottom two pairings.

I don't see Montreal moving Matheson this season unless it's an overpay, as they are likely losing Savard as a UFA or renting him out, and Savard and Matheson are the only veteran D, the rest being pretty young, with Carrier being more experienced to some extent. So a 1st and Desharnais might be fair, but Montreal badly needs veterans on D so a fair deal won't get Matheson out of the Habs.

Oh man a Matheson-Myers pairing would be incredible. Pure unfiltered hockey comedy.

I don't think he's worth nearly what you're talking about. Matheson plays defense if you can even call it that fast and loose. Great skater, moves the puck pretty well but an absolute liability defensively. Don't want to hear anything about 'the system' or 'if he played on a good team' either, he was the same with Florida and Pittsburgh. He's also not going to get the same powerplay time playing behind Hughes as he does in Montreal either.

On the other hand Canucks for whatever reason decided to fill their blueline like they were shopping exclusively at the big and tall morons who can't make a pass store. So maybe he'd give them something they need.
Man that is a classic line and unfortunately the truth for us right now.

As for Matheson I think that montreal keeps him to shelter their young guys a bit, not sure on his actual value but hoglander could be a nice replacement for Gallagher.

alot depends on how soon the Habs think that David Reinbacher will be ready and that's hard to tell as he hasn't played yet this year and might need some time to develop on the farm still.

The Canucks are desperate for D but surely they can do better than Matheson?

I still remember when he body slammed Pettersson as a rookie and gave him a concussion because he was salty that Pettersson dangled him.
Do you think you won't remember it in the future? Memory is fleeting, after all. To add to that, the human memory is faulty, on it's best days.
Time is not linear, so "still" remembering something provides a very tasty interpretation of our place within it.

I see that there is a ton of the usual HF expertise on a player some have seen sporadically, if at all.

Math is paired with Hutson, who is arguably decent AHL level defensively and nothing more. SMarty stupidly simply refuses to pair Savard and Guhle with those two so they become the Adventure Duo.

Math is so "bad defensively" that he's on the first PK unit. He's pretty good defensivly when he's not given the green light to go nuts out, which SMarty has given him.

The issues is how SMarty overused him, actually abuses him because X can do the PK role. Instead of pairing him with Guhle and used 20 minutes a night, he's way overused and paired with our worst defensive defenseman.

Vancouver 1st is not enough and we have no need for Desharnaise or Hoglander. What we need is a youngish #2 RHD or 2C of which you have neither to spare or way too old. Going through the Canucks roster, there isn't much desirable and we have plenty of draft picks. Canucks is not a good trading partner for us so look elsewhere. AND we don't need to sell.

Matheson will most likely fetch a 1st (or 2 2nds or a 2nd and a 2nd round equivalent prospect).. gotta admit that he hasn't been as good as last year tho

i think OPs offer is pretty fair value-wise (don't like Hoglander's $$ tho), problem is Hoglander is a very redundant piece for us, we need another Heineman-type player
Hoglander bad fit for us. But we probably could flip him. Or waive him. If Canucks throw in extra 3rd for our trouble doing it.

Matheson for Hoglander, Canucks first this year, 2nd in '26 and 3rd in '27. Good trade for both clubs.
