In all seriousness, around how many goals do you think Bossy scores if he plays until 1994? That would've been 7 seasons, meaning he retires at age 37. I chose that season because that was Trottier's final season (though the previous season was his first retired before his one season comeback), so that's my educated guess for how long a healthy Bossy plays.
He averaged 57 goals/season and 62 goals/82 games, obviously skewed high because of his early retirement, and scored 573 career goals in 10 seasons. If you cut his 57 GPS in half for these 7 hypothetical seasons, he still ends up with about 770 career goals, soon to be 4th all time. To reach 800, he'd need to average 33 GPS, and 47 GPS to reach 900 (surpassing Gretzky's 894).
My best guess is he surpasses 800 goals and retires 2nd to Gretzky in career goals. In this situation, making the assumption he's a career Islander, the circumstances and timing would be favorable to him. He'd have LaFontaine and later Turgeon as his centers, both of whom were really good playmakers. Also, he retires right before the dead puck era begins, so still a relatively high scoring era, despite league scoring not being as high as it was at his peak.
Obviously this is a difficult hypothetical, and the assumption that he plays 7 more seasons if healthy is just my best guess. About how many career goals do you think Bossy gets if healthy?
