It's like you JUST get luckily got out of an overpriced player with two years left (kapanen) for another... Except it's MORE money and higher stakes if said player fails here

f***in brilliant

This has the potential to be the worst trade since the X-Generation. Which is insane considering how many trades Shero and JR made

Better beg that it will work out cause we're stuck with him for 2 more years....
with no retention

Like I said, he seems to double down on stupid whenever he gets a little bit of cap space.

Granlund has to work out for this to work.

On the bright side Granlund had chemistry with Zucker in Minnesota so maybe they can reunite, put those 2 together and move Rust to line 3.

Sally the Sabotager will screw this up.

It’ll be really hard for us to miss tbh.
Sid and Geno have both been healthy all season long. At some point you have to think the other shoe is going to drop.

Also, I’m only asking for two things of the next Penguins GM:

1. No deep ties to the Flyers organization
2. Don’t be a former goaltender

It’s not a lot.

"Hextall is the perfect GM to be honest."

Only need ANOTHER Jarry injury to rule us out of playoffs
Jarry or Sid. If either goes down for any length of time, they'll be fighting tooth and nail just to get shitkicked in round 1. If the season progresses like it has, they're probably a safe bet to make it, just to get shitkicked in round 1.

How did he cost a 2nd? He's having an average year production wise and his contract is a negative rather than a plus.

The sad thing is, even if we were an underdog story or Cinderella team that was well coached, we'd have a shot and a better feeling about making noise.

None of the above applies to this team. They're a country club that is stagnat and poorly coached.

Why even make a deal if this is what you're going to do? Other teams are adding Meier and Kane etc and management thinks this move makes the team competitive?

Pittsburgh
Cons:
He's a small forward who likes to pass a lot. He's more of the same type of forward that we have a ton of.
He's on the wrong side of 30, which is again, something we have a ton of.
He's declining, at least for this season.
He wasn't used on the PK a lot this season.
That cap hit.

Pros:
He should either bolster the bottom six himself or push a player down who will, which hopefully fills a need for the team.
Even in a down year for him, he still scored 36 points in 58 games.
His acquisition cost wasn't much.
Prior to this season, he was supposedly a very good PKer. It's possible that his not being used on the PK is related to his (potential) decline, or maybe Hynes has gotten worse as a coach?
If he could somehow be a Zucker replacement in the top six, that cap hit doesn't look so bad.
His nickname is 'Granny', which is fun.

Other:
Teams that make big splashes at the deadline don't usually win the Cup. The last time that a team made a big splash and won was 2014. I think that this time it will be a team that makes a big splash who wins, simply because so many did, but the fact remains that it's usually the teams making smaller moves who win.

You could argue that Tampa trading a slew of 1st rounders for Barclays Goodrow and Blake Coleman is what finally put them over the top. That Coleman/Gourde/Goodrow unit was probably Tampas 2nd best line in those playoffs and is what finally got that core their championship.

Yep. And while they gave up a lot for those players, those weren't exactly the types of big splashes we've been seeing recently. They're much closer to a Granlund-type of deal.

Remember when everyone was mad because of Depres for Lovejoy? Or Hornqvist for Matheson?

I am not thrilled with this trade either but if you read the reactions and know nothing about the player, you would think Granlund is 39 years old and his best point total is 7 or something.

Not sure what's worse...waking up to this news, or having to go to sleep right after finding out.

The fact that Hextall made this deal with zero retention is inexcusable
Going to sleep pissed off at hockey last night wasn’t good for me. I try not to get that invested anymore, but I couldn’t help it last night. This one sent me over.
