Has Quinn ever said it's a chest injury? The only thing I've ever seen was his "it's a neck, upper-body injury" comment.

Yeah .. where did the 'sternum injury' thing start?

10 games, definitely starting to worry a bit. Though the skating on his own thing leads me to believe no 'C' word occurred here.

An interview he did a few weeks back said chest.

The sternum thing is what’s being said internally and among reporters.

So that’s where the latter is coming from.

At this point, does it matter if Mika suffered a concussion or chest injury?

If it’s the latter, he’s still prone to concussions. As is any player who’s had one. With the speed of today’s game, every player can be 1 hit away from having that label too.

If he did suffer a concussion, I think awareness might be a good thing league-wide since most players are not trying to end careers on the ice.

I realize teams don’t disclose things for various reasons. I just have a hard time believing they wouldn’t announce a concussion if it was in fact, a concussion.

The Pens had no problem announcing Crosby’s 4th concussion in 2017.

I will admit that a big part of me circles back to this - Does it really matter?

If the answer is yes, I don’t know if he’s any more prone to them than he was six weeks ago.

If the answer is no, it’s still a serious injury.

Either way, it doesn’t do much to alleviate concerns, fair or unfair, that Zibanejad isn’t the most durable player on the planet.

I feel like at this point people are almost more concerned with:

A. Knowing

B. Being right, even if it’s a guess

Than they are with how badly Zibanejad was actually hurt.

Is there any more info on when he may be coming back? I was hoping he would play against Washington.

@Mika hope you are nearing 100% and coming back soon. Miss watching you on that ice. Panarin can only do so much, he misses you as well. That last game had Rangers winning 5-4 instead of "loosing" 4-3, had you played.

I explained exactly why the concussion claims are an educated guess and not naked explanation, but as usual, the old guard's opinions are more valid than everyone else's.
Maybe it has more to do with not one paper even speculating and the fact that the head coach specifically said what it is and he would look awful if it turned out that he was blatantly lying to the public?

Also, no one aside from yourself seems to be debating whose opinions are more valid. Should probably tell you something as you seem to be seeking justification.

I don't know how anyone can envision Mika being on this team past his current contract. He is just too injury prone to be relied on long-term moving forward; sad but true. He's on a great contract right now, but he absolutely cannot be penciled in as a top center for this team past his contract--and the decision to trade him before it is up (as we have been doing with all players when it comes time) will be here before we know it.

Those that would keep him: what's going to happen when we have him as our #1 center (on hopefully a competitive team) and he is out inevitably for extended periods of time? While still paying him a ridiculous amount he will receive on his next contract? Everyone else in our center depth moves up? He is just not one to be relied on, and one we should not be investing in long-term. The evidence has been on full display since he joined us.

'Who will play center??' will probably be the most common response to this, and I honestly do not know. We will have to explore in the draft this year, and potentially with trading him, Skjei, other D prospects in our system, to fill our center pipeline.

'But every player is one hit away from an injury' will be another. True, yest. But it's getting to the point where I cringe whenever Mika is hit, and I knew as soon as he took that hit in the Bruins game he was hurt. Did not think this bad, but that just adds to my point here.

I am BEYOND GLAD he was not named captain, as rumored before the start of the season. He is just someone that will not (and should not) be apart of this team long-term. Love him as a player--was thrilled when we acquired him--but the sooner we come to terms that he will not be apart of this team in the long run, the better. Trade options will need to be explored, and will need to be addressed sooner rather than later.

Again, love Mika, want him to succeed here--but it is evident he is not that franchise center moving forward.

Why is Mika injury prone? Prior to this one he's had one major injury in the last five years and it was a fluke play where he had his feet taken out and crashed awkwardly into the boards that could happen to anyone.

I'd say a concussion is a 'major injury" even if he only missed 10 games or however many it was

Bad choice of words from me then. He's had one "long-term" injury and it was on a fluke play. Other than that he's played 80,81,72,82 games in 4 of the last 5 years (96% of the possible games during that timeframe). Not seeing a guy who is consistently missing games injured like a Malkin.

I think injury prone is the wrong word but the concussions are starting to add up. He has to be 120% before coming back into the lineup so no surprise on the amount of time he's missed.

Oh man. I had a sternum fracture some 15 months ago, still a massive pain. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. Especially if you catch a cold and have to sneeze.

Yeah, my buddy bruised his about four weeks ago, and he's still labouring a bit to breathe; to the point where he had to go to the hospital last week to get re-assessed.

I pulled a muscle in my chest about a month ago, and lifted weights for the first time yesterday. And I lift old lady weight.

You would think fans of a franchise who have had enough really good centers to count on one hand over the last 40 years would let this situation marinate a little more. But nope!
