Old friend alert.

With their 1000 injuries to starters and potential starters, the Tigers can't have too much depth. Hell, I can barely keep track of who we have, who's healthy, who's projected to play at all in '23, etc. etc.

This look right?

Expected ready to go Opening Day
LHP Rodriguez
LHP Boyd
RHP Turnbull
RHP Manning
RHP Brieske
RHP Faedo
LHP Wentz
Alexander/Hill/R. Garcia/El. Rodriguez (poss RPs)

Should be healthy at some point in '23
LHP Skubal

Won't be healthy until '24
RHP Mize

Verlander and Scherzer reunited on the Mets. Hard to believe they're still so good at 38 and 39. I'd take Verlander's deal over deGrom's in a heartbeat.

Are Tigers fans currently the most tortured fanbase in sports?

It's a shame that injuries crippled his last few years here, but that's how most players naturally age.

And the Candelario no deal keeps the door open for signing Correa and moving Baez to third...:D:D
It may be sacrilege, but 2022 should have been his last year. He's literally got nothing to prove and the Tigers really had nothing else going. They should have started the Miguel Cabrera farewell tour when he hit No. 500 and then rode into the sunset at the end of 2022 with a negotiated pay rate. Because Cabrera is gonna pound his joints again and play like 1/3rd of the time.

I do agree, but it also doesn't really matter too much. Tigers aren't going anywhere next season anyway. I guess you could argue that he'll be blocking playing time from someone like Carpenter, but that's somewhat off-set by the fact that my mom is an unreasonable Cabrera fan and is going to be happy to watch him one more season

All the injuries to starters helped several young pitchers to be promoted. And both Manning and Skubal made considerable progress this year. In 2024, the Tigers will have a rotation of Turnbull/Skubal/Manning/Rodriguez/Mize/Wentz/Brieske plus upcoming prospects and other youngsters. I really like their pitching!

The Tigers certainly never were a real option, but I wish Judge would have signed with them (even for $ 370m/9y, since the Tigers would have needed to outbid the Yankees). Paying him $ 40m per year might become a clear overpay after five years; however, the Tigers won't spend too much on starters with Skubal, Manning, Mize and/or Wentz plus later on Flores or Madden in their rotation. The management should therefore invest heavily in positions of need, and Judge would have been almost an ideal player. I also think Judge will be less overpaid in his ninth year than Cabrera is currently.

Those sound like made up names. Like hitting the “random name” button on create-a-player.

Too bad about Jimenez. He seemed to still have some promise.
Scott Harris obviously wants more British names. Therefore neither Wily Peralta nor Bryan Garcia ever had a chance to be signed over Matthew Boyd.

Anyway, just like the Boyd signing I also like this trade. Malloy obviously gets on-base and still is quite young. Let's just hope his defense is not too Castellanos-esque when he mans 3B for the Tigers (which might be soon). Tricky Harris also opened the roster spot for his Rule 5 pick.

The rotation should be pretty cost controlled for awhile but how much of it is also injured entering this season? I'd love to see us make a splash for Correa but I would be a bit surprised by it. My guess is that we'll kick the tires on guys but stay on the outside, make another Jimenez type deal or two, and basically write this season off and try to sell tickets as Miggy's swan song.
