Yeah, he creates a lot of chances. He's not just a guy that is lucky and opportunistic.

His stick work is great. I had no idea he's such a savvy player with it. He doesn't just poke pucks away, he really picks his spots to jump on opposing players with his speed.

Question on pronunciation: Is it like the regular word 'grab', or pronounced more like Jesper Fast's last name (with that particular A pronunciation)?

I've been calling him Grabthar.

If he gets a 25 goal season or so, he probably won't be a Ranger moving forward, but they would move him in a trade before the expansion draft instead.

Don't see how there will be a lot of trades before the expansion draft, given that there will be a lot of teams trying to move and get "value" for players they have trouble protecting from the expansion draft.

If the Canucks get a new GM, he'll have like two forwards he'll even want to protect. I don't know, I haven't gone through each team, but I have a hard time imagining there's 210 forwards that require protection that are seen as more valuable than Grabner coming off a 25-ish goal season.

Given that the Rangers wouldn't be dealing from strength (the rest of the league will know the pickle the organization is in with the expansion draft), not really sure what a team with room would be willing to give to get Grabner--I don't think it would be very much.

We'll have to wait until the end of the season, but I question why an expansion team would take a 30 year old player who just had a career year--especially given the fact that Grabner hasn't scored more than 26 points since the 2011-2012 season. Plus, they would have to consider the fact that Grabner would be a UFA after next season and very likely to leave LV, rather than be the veteran presence on an expansion team.

this started at another area, but are folks really troubled about Grabs maybe being the Vegas loss?

It's a problem because Gorton expertly replaced Hagelin with Grabner and signed him to a sweet 2 year deal on a nice cap hit and we're going to be robbed of him.
Really bothers me, actually.

c'mon, IF Grabner is the expansion pick, so be it, someone's gotta go.

Gorton's expert move included Grabs signing 2-years precisely to be Expansion draft eligible,
just like Holden was acquired partly cuz his contract's thru '18, making him eligible in mind

Grabs hasn't had 2 great years in a row in a while.
would you be happier if they took Raanta?

NYR exposed guys will include Raanta, Klein, Holden,
Grabner, and depending on re-signings Fast and/or Lindberg and/or Pirri

That is Gorton being expert right there
no matter who NYR lose in expansion draft, no huge harm

every team will lose 1 player

despite what people like to write here,
Vegas isn't going to take each team's worst eligible player, or worst eligible contract

newer fans may be uncertain, because its been so long since last expansion, its part of he league, and its really not so bad

If he ask for same type of contract we better move him to Oilers. ;)
He won`t keep up that goal pace - very little chance for that end of this season. :)

I have been thrilled with how he has fit. The goals are gravy. He is being paid to use his speed and play a good two way game. It was expected his goal output would slow. Just need others to carry the load.

The only reason any team even gave him a two year contract is with the purpose of exposing him in the expansion draft. If it happens, fine.

Yes, he has played above all expectations, and he is skating for a new contract as well. I think the move for him was very positive to play in MSG - he looks like a different player when he came here.

Grab is pronounced differently depending on where you live. Sometimes the a is like air. Sometimes it's like at.

Although the usual pronunciation i seem to hear is like at.

They should continue use Zuci on pk as well - long stick reach too and speed. (We are ranked 5th in the league this year when AV started to use Zuci and Grabner when he came here on pk) And that`s a huge improvement. Grabner is Hagelin in disguise! :D

as per what MR 5967 wrote,
Grabner is signed for next year -

that was a critical aspect of his deal,
to sign a forward with both adequate games played and contract length,
so to be eligible for the Vegas expansion draft

while i appreciate Grabner's performance this year,
if it's him, or Klein, or Holden, that we lose to Vegas,
I will consider that a best outcome
better than losing Raanta or a younger forward

Raanta > Grabner
I still think Klein has more trade value than Grabner. He's no where near his 9 goals from the previous two seasons but RHD are pretty sought after.
So losing Grabner is not such a big deal. Vegas would probably have better long term success taking Lindberg since they can actually keep him past 2017. Everyone else that they take from our roster is just trade deadline bait unless they resign.

When someone said Grabner gets at least a breakaway a game, I thought it was an exaggeration. The guy seems to break free from everyone in a few strides and actually does get a breakaway a game.

his skating stride is basically flawless. its not just his speed, its the power he puts into every stride...just an incredible skater. Hagelin gets his speed from pumping his legs like a madman...Grabner pushes off so hard on each stride...Kreider is closer to grabner, but he doesnt have grabners first or second step. grabner is at full speed in 1 stride..it takes kreider at least 2 strides to get there.

hes a solid player but ill still never understand how he scored 34 goals in this league
