He's playing like he's worth protecting. Let's see if he keeps this up.

Rangers will have to make moves.

Trading NHL pieces to a team like Buffalo that needs it for two pieces that don't need protection like Will Borgen and Justin Bailey can be realistic. That's a team needs to take a step.

SJ is another team. Jeremy Roy and local boy Kevin Lablanc. Kid's from the area, and he's the real deal. 6th Round steal, torched the OHL the last two years. 127 points in junior.

Already played NHL games.

Love Will Borgen's game. Same goes for Jeremy Roy, but I haven't had the chance to see Lablanc yet.

Didn't Jeremy Roy get a horrific injury just a few weeks ago? Maybe I'm thinking of someone else. Labanc got his first NHL goal last game

Just checked, and yes he did. Suffered a really nasty knee-on-knee collision trying to be aggressive and attack an opposing forward entering the zone. Looked ugly.

Milan Lucic
Andrew Ladd
Loui Eriksson
David Backes
Mikkel Boedker

Cap-hit: $27,500,000

Michael Grabner

So he's worse than them. Combined all of them are better than him. :sarcasm:

i am a big big grabner Fan, but i am really "shocked" how good his start (is this start after 20 GP.:rolly: ) in that season is..

He is in Race to the Richard Trophy - Plus Minus Award and Selke trophy...

it doesn't matter he wins or not in the end, but that season can be really great for him....
30 Goals and a +/- +25 is possible i think....

Personally with one year left of a $7.8 mil contract I would expose Nash before Grabner at least if things continue the way they're going. Let them take that huge cap hit for a year if they like. I'm thinking they won't.

If he gets a 25 goal season or so, he probably won't be a Ranger moving forward, but they would move him in a trade before the expansion draft instead.

We'll at least get a second season of him of high production at a low cap hit. I'm worried we'll only get one season from the guy before Vegas takes him.

Good thinking....

Depends on the approach the team's ownership/management takes. Nash could be big name ticket seller in Vegas. They won't be able to get any other players who were once superstars through the expansion draft.

expose fasth, lindberg, jooris..pirri if need be.

id keep grabner and nash if it were me. or trade em. losing them for nothing is dumb.

We'll know more as the year goes along, trades are made, ect.

Fast has also been outstanding. Grabner could score 1 goal the rest of the year. You never know.

The good news is that I think only one player from each team can be chosen so we'll only lose one guy.

Nash, Stepan, Kreider, Zuccarello, Miller, Zibanejad, Hayes all need to be protected, so those players you named won't be in consideration for protection, I wouldn't think.

i would then trade grabner before hand to avoid losing him for nothing. or trade nash. frankly id rather trade nash. even though nash is clearly the better player with the better pedigree (im sure ppl will flame me for saying that, but whatever)...the cap needs to be considered, and the need to address the blueline needs to be considered.

I don't think Vegas will take Grabner simply because of his age. They probably will be looking for younger assets, or at least they should be. They accomplish nothing from being good next year, better go young and tank for a season or two. Probably taking someone like Fasth or Lindberg if we don't protect them.

I thought the Rangers were getting a "poor man's Hagelin" when Grabner signed. Im already convinced that assessment was off. If he scores 25, I think we should be ecstatic. But we should hold him to the 50 or so pace hes on right now.

I think they take Fast as well, Grabner has been great, that Vegas roster will be awful next year, they take Grabner and he is back on a Leafs like roster from last season.

Is it worth it to take Grabner for one season where they will have no chance of making the playoffs or a young bottom 6 player they can lock up long term?

I guess Vegas could move Grabner at some point next season for a draft pick though if they do pick him.

I could see Grabner being picked up for his veteran presence. They can't ice an entire team of 24 year olds.

forget about his goals which says a lot but just look at the difference he makes on the ice. on the pk even at even strength getting to pucks with his effort and skating ability.
Forget about the islander fans all the leafs fans should be eating crow after all the talk of Grabner being a pure scrub.

Yeah, he creates a lot of chances. He's not just a guy that is lucky and opportunistic.
