If you're ever wondering after 3-4 preseason games what a player has done to earn a roster spot, the first place I would check is the rest of their NHL career.

Unless it is the opposite of course, then 3-4 pre-season games trump an entire career.

I don't know how anyone couldn't be happy with him so far. He's scoring goals--putting up really nice offense and he's helped to improve the PK. I figured he'd be an excellent addition to the PK--I wasn't expecting much as far as offense. Stalberg wasn't bad but Grabner is much much better.

Still lot of hockey to go but i sure am glad we got him on a 2 year deal.

Not much talk about this guy. Sure, his shooting percentage is unsustainable, but on the other hand he's very good at finding prime scoring chances every game. His speed together with AV's offensive philosophy fits him like a glove. He doesn't just thrive as the first guy on the rush, sometimes he comes at the second wave.

Maybe he has found some new confidence here? All of a sudden, his shots are going in, when he has been known for blowing almost all of his chances.

He should be able to score at least 25 goals this year and that would be awesome. He can't be focused that much by the defense of other teams, because they have three lines to take care of.

I knew he would fit in well in NY with his style of play, but I wasn't expecting 25-30 goals. The guy is dangerous every tie he steps foot on the ice. If I were Gorton, I would be strongly considering offering him an extension (can this be done?)

Let's pump the brakes a bit. We'll wait and see what happens with the expansion draft first. Grabner's contract is up in 2018. We'll see what happens with Vegas, and then see how he plays next year if it's still for us.

If he was willing to extend, right now, for say 2-2.25m would you jump at it? I would. Even if his scoring dries up, he is an effective player. That's close to a 200% raise

There is no point in extending him now, in the second month of his two year deal.

Let it play out. If he doesn't get scooped up by Vegas, and he's still playing effective hockey come the middle of next season...that's when you decide on giving him an extension or not.

Agree here.

Yeah it may unsustainable for a season, but most of his goals are breakaways or high percentage scoring plays. If he continues to get THOSE types of chances, I don't see him slowing down considerably.

The odd thing is he's actually converting his breakaways. If you watched him in prior seasons, he was terrible on breakaways. For whatever reason this year he's actually finishing on them. I'd like to think he's figured it out, but odds are he's getting lucky.

Maybe. But man 80% of 'em don't look lucky to me.

Only saw the third period and while he did not score he had 2-3 nice chances in close. Loved how he accelerated through those two defenders to get to the loose puck but got his stick poked out of his hand at the end. He just has an extra gear most players are missing.

Grabner is just ridiculously fast and picks his spots where to accelerate and use his stick to challenge other players, it's a beautiful sight.

He's a much smarter hockey player than I expected.

Oh my goodness yes. I've noticed this so much about his game. His stick work to disrupt the play has been great.

Grabner came in as advertised the first couple games, then blew the lid of everything and made himself a key player. Couldnt be happier with this signing

Grabner tied with Crosby for second most goals...

remarkable breakaway goal today again. Could be really a 20+ goal season for him...

...and he leads the +/-

Yes, he has been great here in New York - I`m happy for him! :)

Also, the record for even strength goals without any PP/SH goals though the first 18 games of the season, is 14 by Jaromir Jagr in 1999-2000. Grabner's 11, is 2nd best (Dating back to 1986-87)
