Which is why I firmly believe that while this franchise would like to win a Cup... the overall mentality and culture is geared more like a business... i.e. to sell tickets (notice I didn't say put ***** in seats, completely different) and earn revenue.
While yes a Cup would go a long way towards increasing that revenue, they run the team like a business... which isn't to say that is a bad thing, in this climate it is a necessity.
But getting into the play-offs and maybe winning a round is very different from taking a step back one year to make a leap forward 1, 2, 3 years and/or beyond.
This franchise never has a problem "Going for it" but they show little if any degree of concern for a year or two from now.
Maybe that changes under Gorton but I doubt it will... if ONLY for the pressure he's no doubt under to "at least maintain".
