I really wouldnt trade frattin. He's one of those rare players that can pot 20 on the third line.
Mac + Colborne + Scrivens+ 3rd
for
Bernier

is the max I'd go.

I'd be pretty happy to snag Bernier as long as the price was somewhat reasonable. Bernier is 24, on a small contract (set to become an RFA after this year), and I think he could mature into a good starting goalie, he's a good fit with a young team like ours that is looking to contend more in a few years from now than immediately. Luongo is 33 and on a monster contract, not such a good fit with a young team building for the future. I'd prefer a trade for Bernier personally, and I think he'd probably cost less too. Something along the lines of Bernier for Frattin would work for me.

I can't see the Kings having much interest in Mac. I expect Frattin would have to be included.

I've said no to the idea of trading for Bernier in the past, but I'm warming up a bit to the idea. Completely depends on what he'd cost though.

Can someone let me in on the secret of Frattin? I have never understood the reluctance of trading a dime a dozen 3rd line winger for a potential franchise goalie even if it is only potential.

Because his scoring touch and two-way game make him a possible 2nd line scorer if he tops out?

I've got to agree with you. I think Frattin is going to be a pretty decent third line player for the Leafs. He's only gotten better since being in the NHL, and with the Marlies this year. He's a darkhorse for me this year and next. I think he'll come into his own the more comfortable he gets.

because I wanna see what he can actually do now that he's had a rookie season behind him.

He seems to score pretty well in the AHL, if he can find that touch in the NHL he could be a very useful player

Not sure, maybe ask all the guys who played in the NHL covering the Leafs, because they are in on it man!

If Bernier reaches his potential who has a bigger impact, a 2nd line winger or a starting goalie?

And he had 20+ goals last year. 5th best behind Hossa, Kane, Sharp and Toews...

Yup I know, that's what I mean - look how that trade turned out. We don't even have Versteeg anymore. I wouldn't trade Frattin at this point either.

that's WAY too much for Bernier.

I'd aim at Macarthur + Blacker + 5th TOPS.

realistically, with the shortened season, i'd go with Reimer and sign someone if he faulters in the offseason.

I'm all for this actually because we kill two birds with one stone.

At the moment, there are simply too many forwards on our end, blocking guys like Kadri from making the team. And Bernier still has high potential that I am willing to bank on.

Maybe something like Porn* proposed above me, but I'd also include Scrivens if they wanted him.

Nonis once selected Bernier for Team Canada at the Worlds, obviously he holds him high in regard.

Edit-Also selected Travis Zajac, UFA bound this summer. Bet Nonis will pursue him.

Not a fan of Bernier.

He's a small goalie who doesn't seem to play well when he's counted on.

When has he ever been counted on?

Played sparingly the last couple of years... stuck behind a stud.

Bernier is a lot like Rask or Halak was. A guy stuck behind a very good goaltender.

Rask's talent isn't even in question, most people assume Boston may not even miss a beat. Its perceivable that Bernier can make a similar impact, just needs to be given a chacne. Until last year, LA wasn't even a particularly good defensive team... and Bernier was pretty effective.

I'd move one of our wingers, like MacArthur for him straight up. Would be very wary of picks/prospects being included.

There is no question he's an upgrade over Scrivens... and his ceiling is much higher than Reims. If the price is right, its a very low risk high potential move.
