I don't know if Bernier is the answer but I don't think Reimer is either.

If the leafs don't make a trade for a goalie they will finish 12-15th in the east IMO.

I have a good feeling that we won't see Scrivens on the Leafs this year. I hope management sends him back to the AHL or trades him.

Hmmm... a young .910 goalie or a kid who can't make a last placed team?

Tough call here.

But not really.

Are you even a Leaf fan?

Bernier went 5-6-2 last year on the cup winning team.

His overall NHL record is 20-17-5 in 48 games.

When James Reimer played in his first NHL stint, he played 37 games and had a record of 20-10-5.

Bernier's career Save % and GAA are 2.50 and .910.

Reimer's are 2.83 and .911.

Bernier is 5 ft. 11 in.

Reimer is 6 ft. 2 in.

Both goalies are the same age.

What improvement are we getting with Jonathan Bernier? James Reimer has played a mere 23 more games on a much weaker roster and has put up similar, if not better, numbers.

Ha, beat me to it.

Just throwing this out there - while currently, both of them seem to be very similar in terms of quality, what about their potential and upside?

I can't help but feel that one of them has the potential to be a superstar in this league, while the other one I'm almost convinced will not be anything more than average.

Yup.

And this is what people who are unbiased can see!

Why do you say that?

People always have this notion that anyone drafted high or who plays for Team Canada at the WJC is automatically going to have more potential than those who do not. I don't see any reason to believe that Bernier has much more potential than Reimer.

Leaf fans, don't bother responding to obvious attempts at getting you riled up. You pretty much talking to some 14 year old kid in his mommy's basement. I maybe, MAYBE see 1/250 people here that are not Leaf fans make realistic, objective proposals that are equal in value.

Are you really Ron Wilson?

Like I said - just throwing it out there for the sake of discussion.

Personally I'm not sold on Reimer. He was very good in a 4 month span two years ago, but was that lightning in a bottle? Personally - I think so. I don't think he has it in him to become an elite goalie in the NHL.

Do you think Reimer has the ability to put up numbers, or deliver high caliber goaltending, like a Carey Price? Or a Lundqvist? Or Miller? Rinne? Quick? etc.? I don't think his name will ever be mentioned alongside any of those.

Because Reimers stats are being boosted by his hot start in the NHL which has since been backup quality.

I'd say Bernier has just as good of a chance to be like them as Reimer.

Doesn't have to be an elite goalie for us Or nerd to be elite to be a good goalie. He just needs to be above average and stop the puck

I would say that Bernier has a better chance than Reimer to be mentioned amongst those names, and would cite that being played limited minutes, behind one of the best goalies in the league in Quick, is a huge reason as to why he hasn't perhaps progressed as much as he could have at this point.

Just my two cents though - obviously and naturally I hope I'm wrong about Reimer; I'm just not sold on him, and think that Bernier will, in the next few years, be the better of the two.

Time will tell, but that's what's great about being a hockey fan.
