Nobody was going to trade for Luongo with the uncertainty of how his contract would be handled in the new CBA.
I have no doubt that's true. However my main point was during the summer we didn't see or hear Mike Gillis worry about the market when there was talk about Toronto looking at Bernier.

Now if Toronto did trade for Beriner tomorrow or in a few weeks it could mean the market gets worse for Vancouver because there is one less team involved in the Luongo trade talk and maybe a team like the Panthers say the ball is now in our court if they still want him.

Bernier makes more sense than Luongo. I like MacArthur and 3rd, but not sure LA would.

Reimer:

AHL 09-10: 26GP, 2.25 GAA, .925 SV%
AHL 10-11: 15GP, 2.59 GAA, 920 SV%
NHL 10-11: 37GP, 2.6 GAA, .921 SV%
NHL 11-12: 34GP, 3.1 GAA, .900 SV%

Scrivens:

AHL 10-11: 33GP, 2.33 GAA, .924 SV%
AHL 11-12: 39GP, 2.04 GAA, .926 SV%
NHL 11-12: 12GP, 3.13 GAA, .902 SV%
AHL 12-13: 22GP, 2.22 GAA, .917SV%

It is Scriven's turn to have a shot playing in net. In Reimer, I see a goalie that came into a league and went on a run. He's been figured out. I don't buy the notion that some people seem to think that he was playing great before he got injured. He played 4 or 5 games before he got injured. Are we actually going to use 4 or 5 games as a valid indication of a good season sidelined by injuries? His numbers last season were a reflection of other NHL teams figuring out his weaknesses (high glove to name one), not because he got injured.

Scrivens came in last year and played in front of a team trying to learn a new system, with multiple AHL call-ups and injuries and played equal to Reimer. It's time to give Scrivens a chance to battle Reimer and take the starting job.

To say D'Amigo is more valuable than Scrivens now is just like saying he would be more valuable than Reimer two years ago after his two great seasons in the Marlies.

There is no market for Luongo. Gillis would never trade with us if he could avoid it. Remember Burke in Sweden, not for the Sedins or the story goes. All the whining the Nucks fans did. Did it cost us a 4th? As for the Panthers, as I've noted already in this thread. There is nobody saying boo about Luongo over there, so obviously they don't care. There is no market for Luongo, google it, the Nucks started putting out feelers for trading him a year after they signed him to that 12 year deal.

Bernier won't be moved - Bobby Mac said they are weary of moving him because although Quick had successful back surgery and claims to be 100% they don't want to take chances given LA doesn't have a lot of depth at G behind Bernier.

They can wait for a couple of weeks but Bernier has been demanding a trade behind the scenes for two years now. He's even publicly acknowledged that he's asked for one a couple of times now.

You'd have to think this hits a boiling point soon.

Absolutely no chance that they trade Kopitar or Richards, but there's a chance that Carter could be available I would think. Not overly high on Carter though.

Carter is that big center we have been looking for and if he is available I would definitely be on him and although Bernier is a back-up, so is Luongo

I guess BM is trying to fill his air time with something remotely close to substance. This, I'm sure, is nothing new. In fact, the leafs are probably "kicking tires" (whatever that means to BM) on various goalies.

Bernier is an upgrade over Scrivens.

We split the games between Reims and Bernier, and whoever proves themselves to be the better goalie, will be our starter

It wasn't just the whole Burke in Sweden going to try and sign the Sedins, even though he claims it was to sign Gustavsson. There was also that whole issue of Mike Gillis complaining to the league about how Brian Burke said on camera during the Behind The Draft 09 special the name of a Canucks player they would trade for the #2 pick that year. I thought it was dumb of Gillis to file a tampering charge against Burke considering that special was shown a few months after the 09 Draft, but it's history and no trade happened with the Canucks/Lightning so he didn't have a case.

Now take this information for what it's worth but I do remember Brian Burke saying there was no problems between him and Gillis, plus he even voted for him when Gillis won General Manager of the year.

The 4th round pick the Leafs had to give up was because of the way Cliff Fletcher had signed Jonas Frogen, that had nothing to do with the Canucks and their tampering charges.

Good post.

When you said 'value', I took it as trade value. Reimer actually has decent trade value; Burkie said he got a real good offer for Reims but didn't have any interest in trading him.

I don't like Reimer or Scrivens, personally. Ben is great in the AHL, but he allows a fair amount of softies (and makes a ton of great saves too). He's not young though, and there's a chance that we might be seeing his ceiling soon (I know goalies often develop late, it's a coin toss).

Bear in mind, I am extremely high on D'Amigo. His penalty killing is incredible, and he's the exact sort of player that I'd want on my team if I were building.

I don't see Reimer or Scrivens as starters in the league, personally. Reims relies on angles too much, he has awful reflexes, an abysmal glove. Who knows, you might be right. I loved what I saw from Scrivens in the playoffs last year, he was the Quick of the AHL.

finally someone who makes sense.

I feel more comfortable if the leafs go into the year with a combination of bernier/reimer as opposed to reimer/scrivens.

If all the leafs have to do is give up Macarthur and a pick to get the guy (hypothetically), which than in turn frees up a roster spot for Kadri I am all for that.

if bernier doesnt work out, let him walk next year, simple.

Were do people get this from ? The Kings have no desire to move Carter.

Especially since Kopitar will miss some time

I'd rather stick with Reimer to be honest. What's the point in going after another unproven goaltender?

Personally I can't see Los Angeles wanting to trade Carter right now. Although I can see it if they want to get rid of some salary when the cap goes down to $64 million.

Now we all know Brian Burke was never interested in Carter for whatever his reasons were. So if he ever was available I wonder if Nonis would have a different opinion?

Then again considering how Carter is close with Mike Richards and his attitude when he was traded to Columbus, would he act like that again if he got traded to Toronto? Unless the thought of him playing close to home would make it ok.

I'm really warming to idea of Bernier.

He's some one who can grow with the team while (hopefully)providing good goaltending for the present.

Frattin + 2nd '14 + 5th '13

for

Bernier + 4th '13(Car)

It would suck to lose Frattin but we have prospect wing depth in Leivo and Biggs. But Frattin would fit like a glove on either one of their 2nd or 3rd lines.
