No, it’s about people on this site who have earned my trust and respect over the years in whose opinion I put a lot more faith than the talking heads. Many posters operate in good faith. I participate in discussions with plenty of posters, and even when I’ve had my disagreements I stay away from animosity. We discussed a potential deal for McDonagh for weeks. The level-headed posters, most notably Edge and Trxjw, agreed that a deal for McDonagh that included Foote, Howden or Raddysh, a 1st this year and a conditional 2nd next year would be the likely return. And, it damn near was. That’s not rationalization.

For what it's worth, I also saw that is a likely return. I have no problem with the McD return. Just a huge problem with the Miller/Namestnikov swap. But that is going OT since it is not related to my original point.

I know everyone is talking about McDonagh being gone and how much we got or didn't get for him since he was perhaps our best chip and our captain. But in terms of what we lost on the ice, do you think we lost much at all with him? Personally, I don't. Not this version of him. Was he our most reliable defenseman? Yeah, probably. Did he really 'do much' out there? No, not in the last couple of year he didn't.

I honestly feel we already got Ryan's best hockey. With his injuries these past few years, his body is already beginning to break down.Add on to that hes going to want a boat load of term and money for his next contract.Waiting for the draft to trade him also could have backfired.Lets say he did resume playing for us this year and proceeds to tear his knee, resulting in surgery and months of rehab.I'm not sure teams would have been banging down our door then with better packages then what we got.The time to move him was now.We can argue about the value we got for him until we are blue in the face, but it was the right time.

Torts really ran him into the ground and hes played a ton of extended playoff hockey. 96 games. But having him on the 1B 2nd pair in TB is a true luxury they need to take advantage of.

But agree about his upcoming contract and how his value wouldve diminished slightly over the summer. It wouldve been real weird these last 18 games too with him as a lame duck captain.

You and Machinehead need to get together and have a “who can create unrealistic scenarios just so they can have something to complain about” contest.

Holy **** dude. You spent the entire summer *****ing about how this team would never go through a rebuild. You’re getting your wish and you’re STILL complaining?

You can't blame me for not having much faith in Gorton between not canning AV the second the Ottawa series ended and failing to get an A plus asset in his biggest moment as GM yet.

Those two first round picks are as unappealing as it gets. I always said I didn't regret the firsts we traded for Nash and MSL. You look back at the players drafted in those immediate areas and there was nobody that has made a big impact in the NHL. The player I was most bummed out that we missed out on was Christian Fischer. Which is to say not much.

Now we are the ones with those picks.

If Gorton hit a grand slam with this trade I would be over the moon. Regardless of how McDonagh goes onto play in Tampa.

Those rugged players always deteriorate faster than skilled players do. JT Miller will lose speed in 2-3 years just like Callahan/Dubinsky/Anisimov all have. Cannot give long-term contract to these players. I'm glad NYR moved on from him. Use that money on Skjei and eventually on Buchnevich.

I will bet $100 that Miller easily outperforms Namestnikov on their next contracts. People lump Miller in with Callahan/Dubinsky because they are all American and occasionally hit things. Miller is one of the most skilled players on the team, way more than those two, if anything his problem is trying to rely on skill too much.

Me too. Gorton probably just wants to concentrate on rebuilding for next year and onward and doesn't want to be bogged down with hiring a new coach. Just a thought.

He needs to go. We can't have a coach itching to put DD on the 1st line as soon as one of the youngbloods make a defensive misstake. We have grandpa Hank to keep them in check, thats enough.

Fair enough. I don’t like that aspect either. I always liked JT.

Yeah Angelo is a 2/3 alright. Two thirds of a defenseman. I know I'm beating a dead horse and I will gladly eat crow if he turns into something but I doubt I will. Makes silly passes, doesn't shoot, and can't play D to save his life. Not my favorite player at all. He's going to have potentially record breaking minus rating if you give him the chance.
I just vehemently disagree with all of this... Honestly I frequently feel like he's been carryi g his Parker...does he make mistakes? Of course...name a defenseman who doesn't...but he's almost always free for an outlet almost always right where he should be within the confines of the system and always tries to take the body rather than stick or pokecheck. He joins the offensive attacks at the right time and almost never seems to pinch at the wrong time...ask yourself...how many times have you see Ada defending 2 or 3 on 1s....I feel like it's once or twice a game if not more...that the opposition scores isn't in Ada...it's on his partner for constantly pinching at the wrong time....

I've been focusingin on Ada a lot since his callup...and believe me..I really hated the fact that we traded for him and his history...but to my observation..he's playing this system very very well and is gettingcrushed in plus minus almost exclusively because his partners have been aaawwwfffuullll
4 assists in his last 9 games...lots of shots on goal..

I've been really impressed.

I think just looking at him getting roasted on a 2 on 1 isn't really fair...he's the guy back....thats on the guy who hung him out to dry.

is there anyone here who has ever listened to a McDo interview or watched his Rangers: Homecoming (or whatever that show was called) and thought that this guy is a captain-type? he is so timid. he is so weak. there's no emotion to his demeanor. as a veteran, i'd hope he would stay away from our young players. i could see zucc having something helpful/developmental/positive/uplifting to say. not McDo. he's like Hayes, who is awful to listen to. Dominic Moore, now there was a positive and influential personality. Mark messier without a doubt. ryan callahn only because he was such a grinder and so committed to the sport. mcDo doesn't fit this cast of characters.

The only unrealistic scenario I've seen around here is the idea that every rebuild is guaranteed success in a few years.

McDonagh is still really really good and a top pairing defensemen. The crap he got from people on this board because he wasn't perfect and had to carry a partner who wasn't a top pairing guy through a difficult defensive system for so much of his career is ridiculous.

It's going to be a long time before the Rangers have a defenseman as good as McDonagh, even McDonagh of this year/recent years.

I agree his peak was really around that cup run and all the injuries stacking up have really slowed him down a lot, but there's a large number of people here who just have plain stupid expectations of him and refuse to see how good he really was.

Tampa's getting a great player if he's healthy.

Miller and McD being traded like this means that AV won and convinced GM and owners that players like Miller and leadership are the scapegoats, not the coach.

I think the truth is in the middle. Miller might be a pain in the ass, along with the fact that AV is a bumbling stubborn idiot

Everyone here has been splooging over Tolvanen, myself included.

Where was he picked last year?

Don't forget - who you play with DOES matter! People seem to forget that. If you're on the Rangers and everyone around you is making mistakes it assuredly will make most players worse. With Miller on TB and playing with skill guys he just might have a breakout year in 2018/19.

It's a team game. The Rangers' team game is awful right now. I think a guy like Jesper Fast stands out because he somehow remains consistent and reliable even surrounded by buffoons.

miller will be playing for a contender. Namestnikov will be playing for a team that is rebuilding. you cannot compare the two as simply as you have.

Miller's skill also disappears. he cannot hold a line. he isn't reliable. Namestnikov might be. its a gamble. it is part of rebuilding. getting rid of miller was necessary to make the trade happen... and so we did. let's move on. why do we need to hang onto dead weight. we aren't winning the cup this year, or next year. maybe the year after we'll make a strong playoff push, but maybe not. but we are lining ourselves up to be competitive for a while (hopefully -- its a gamble after all) thereafter.

At what point do we stop blaming AV and start blaming the players?I'm no fan of AV and want him gone, but at some point we need to realize some of these players were the problem too.Miller a perfect example.

I do blame everyone (most of the team playing like they don't care), but I blame AV first since the constant line juggling and inconsistency gives me ulcers just like Torts did. For this trade, I wish we just got a slightly better return because of Miller being added. I don't know what that slight increase would be, but it doesn't feel like enough.
