Confirmed with Link: McDonagh + Miller to Tampa Bay for Namestnikov + Howden + Hajek + 2018 1st + conditional 2019 1st

I will bet $100 that Miller easily outperforms Namestnikov on their next contracts. People lump Miller in with Callahan/Dubinsky because they are all American and occasionally hit things. Miller is one of the most skilled players on the team, way more than those two, if anything his problem is trying to rely on skill too much.

How are you measuring their performance? It isn't all about point totals.

Was too angered by this deal to post yesterday.

Slept on it, Analyzed it... Its sucks!

Gorton won the Holden trade
Gorton won the Grabner trade with a slight margin
Gorton won the Boston trade by a huge margin
Gorton flat out lost the McDonagh, Miller trade.

The Grabner trade to the Devils bothers me because we have to play them more often and he will hurt us in the future [if he doesn't re-sign with us this summer].

Only time will tell, I guess.

By the way, I love your avatar. Is that your Rhodesian Ridgeback?

Literally no one has said this.

attempting a rebuild that might be unsuccessful is better than doing what, say, the knicks do -- keep paying players to try to stay relevant. if you are going to rebuild, then rebuild. don't waste money by retaining players you like. i'm not saying tank. i'm just saying to be smart about it. miller isn't going to suddenly transform into a talent that commands a first round pick. we've seen all that he is. the league has too. and now we have a return for him that might pan our or might not. it is all part of the game.

I do blame everyone (most of the team playing like they don't care), but I blame AV first since the constant line juggling and inconsistency gives me ulcers just like Torts did. For this trade, I wish we just got a slightly better return because of Miller being added. I don't know what that slight increase would be, but it doesn't feel like enough.
AV absolutely deserves a ton of blame also.Plenty of blame to go around.Players and coaches.

Not attempting to A. deal him solo or B. See what he looks like next Fall under a new coach is the screw up.

Everyone here has been splooging over Tolvanen, myself included.

Where was he picked last year?

Poile is also the best GM in the sport. This is still largely the same management group that flopped hard with their best pick over the last 20 years with McIlrath. And yes I'm largely convinced this is still the Sather regime.

That said, we have to hit a Game 7 of the World Series 700 foot walk off grand slam at the draft this year. IE using the TB pick to move up. AND AV is fired. I want him nowhere near anyone we've drafted or traded for recently.

That will go a long way towards changing my outlook on things. But on the surface, not a good start.

And you can't blame me or anyone else for feeling that way.

Great interview, it was VERY obvious how Miller's attitude and off-ice issues finally surfaced with management. They didn't want him here anymore and Yzerman said he had been talking to Gorton for a while about him, so it's obvious why he would ask for him to get the deal done. Win/Win for both.

Not sure I'm aware of off ice stuff, but he certainly never displayed a great attitude. I think they felt that this is a guy who will fester during a rebuild.

miller will be playing for a contender. Namestnikov will be playing for a team that is rebuilding. you cannot compare the two as simply as you have.

Miller's skill also disappears. he cannot hold a line. he isn't reliable. Namestnikov might be. its a gamble. it is part of rebuilding. getting rid of miller was necessary to make the trade happen... and so we did. let's move on. why do we need to hang onto dead weight. we aren't winning the cup this year, or next year. maybe the year after we'll make a strong playoff push, but maybe not. but we are lining ourselves up to be competitive for a while (hopefully -- its a gamble after all) thereafter.

Namestnikov managed 44 points playing on the best line in hockey on arguably the best team in the world. Miller with all his flaws has 40 points playing on the 2nd & 3rd line on the Rangers.

by accounts here, miller was the best player on those rangers lines. whereas namestnikov was the worst on his respective lines... so, with a slight facetious tone, i'd say they are rather even players

Namestnikov is way more reliable in the d zone and in getting pucks out of the zone.Ill gladly give up the few extra points Miller outscores him for the smarter 3 zone player.

Thanks...That was Mudge. He was a purebred Ridgeback. I used to work for their rescue.

always been of fan of Fast. he just does what he needs to do.

The problem that the Rangers have had for many years is that they've had a lot of good role players but no go to guy (besides Lundqvist). It's great to have the Jesper Fasts and Zuccarellos of this world. But if that's all you have you'll never win. '94 worked because the Rangers had both. When you needed a goal you had Messier or Graves. When you needed a stop you had Beukeboom or Leetch. When you needed..... you get the idea. The Rangers are (and have been) incomplete. They need skaters who can put the puck in the net. They need defensemen who can get to the puck on the backboards, move it quickly, as well as clear the front of the net. They're really a flawed team at this point but I'm hoping they can fill these holes in a timely fashion.

Oh my god, let the McIlrath thing go. It was almost 10 years ago. And they literally just had a higher pick who looks to be panning out really well along with a late first round pick that looks like a huge steal.

AV absolutely has to be fired, but I'm so sick of hearing how we can't draft because of one pick so long ago, especially after how last year's firsts are looking

we can contend in 3 years...5 at most.

Some strong blocks are in place...not starting at zero.

I think it's extremely premature to talk about contending. Not only are we missing the 2 legit superstars you need to win the Cup (Leetch and Messier, Crosby and Malkin, Kopital and Doughty, Kane and Toews, Chara and Thomas, Brodeur and Stevens), and we don't even have that top-shelf second tier (Zubov, Graves, Kovalev, Larmer). Maybe Kreider-Zib-Butcher fit that second tier, but we don't have that on defense, we are merely hoping Skjei and others get there. We have a bunch of guys who will turn into Nemchinov, Matteau, Tikkanen, Karpovtsev. We are hoping Lias turns into Larmer and Chytil into Kovalev (at least how he was in the Spring of 1994, not when he was enigmatic).

Who is our Messier? Who is our Leetch? Zubov? Graves? To discuss Cup contention right now is like saying, "well, I already have sperm in my balls, so pretty much the same as having a child, time to go picking college for him."

Right now our development is in the sperm stage. Congratulations, we are fertile. Now let's see if it actually goes anywhere.
