Player Discussion McDavid

It's too bad that the old McDavid threads are gone missing. It had some solid evidence of how much the league allows, on a generational talent, illegal and dangerous (possible career ending) hits that wasn't called on the ice, like the Weegar hit recently. I wonder if the Draisaitl threads are gone aswell.

McDavid is a sublime talent. God Bless him and the Edmonton Oilers. We are blessed to have him on this team. But it is quite obvious that him being an Edmonton Oiler, he will not be getting the calls that would easily be made on any other team.
It's almost like the league is sending a message to McDavid, stop playing for the Oilers, and then we will give you the treatment you derserve. Will make it easy on you if you do.
But all I can say is Thank you, McDavid. For playing your heart out for the Oilers and for Edmonton. And pray it will continue and hope that you continue to love playing every minute for the Oilers.
We will always have your back, no matter the obstacles put in your way and the Oilers, I pray to God that he will remove them and will bless you to overcome them as well!

What an amazing player

But he's no Connor Bedard based on what people are saying in another thread. lol. I'm being sarcastic.

Yeah, McD has already established legendary prowess. No player has produced like him in decades. If McD has longevity he will rewrite all the record books.

Connor unfortunately also had the misfortune of playing through pandemic in vastly reduced seasons otherwise he'd be closing in on 1000 NHL pts already next season. He might do it anyway.

They vanish because what people were amazed at has just become normal for him now, so you don't keep getting bumps or new threads.

It's ridiculous how he's made the sublime seem so plain
Nah. Several threads vanished because the many migrations of HFboards leave past threads in the dust never to be seen again. The migration does not carry forward much of the past posting and people had to lobby to get past content carried over. But in the history of HF boards theres been multiple migrations where past record of posting and threads and content was erased leaving no record.

Thats the sad thing about the internet, social media etc in general. 99% of what ever gets put down is lost except for forensic analysis of the same.

I still think hes going to get 50 in 50 this year!
I haven't wanted to actually say it out loud, but now that you broke the ice.. this is the feat that I've been quietly paying close attention to.

It would put him in the most elite NHL company imaginable (Bossy, Richard, Lemieux, Gretzky, and Hull) and accomplish something that hasn't been seen in three decades.

And he's only a couple hatricks and a 2 goal game away from only needing to maintain one per night.

I think McDavid had given up some teammates.(read puljujärvi) McDavid sees passing lanes normal talents dont, so it takes a player with great understaning and IQ to play with him. So he aint like Crosby - making others better, no matter talent. He excells himself and other when he plays with good to great players..
If he plays with ordinary talent he scores 110 points. If he has elite linemates he scores 150.

As Otherwise he likes do it himself.

And Puljujärvi isnt the player that has great execution.

This year he definitly has seperated himself from draisaitl, as a much more consecvent player, a high bar of" worst night" level. Draisaitl has greatness every fourth game, or invisble in others.

Kinda crazy they got both those milestones in the same game! McDavid still on pace for a 150+ point season, which is just BONKERS. If he stays healthy, I think there is a pretty decent chance he hits 150, which is something I never thought I'd see again in my life. The last 150+ season was Mario is 95-96. The highest since then was Kucherov in 18-19 with 128 points and then Thornton in 05-06 with 125 points. It will be pretty surprising (barring injury) if McDavid doesn't beat the 128 point mark this year. He has 75 through 40 games, so only needs 53 more points in the next 42 games to tie Kucherov from 18-19. I can't imagine him not scoring at a 1.26 pace the rest of the way, considering his total career average is 1.46.

I considered starting a thread but thought I'd just put this here instead.

To preface this post, this isn't a McDavid comparison. This is a team with a generational talent comparison over the players' first 8 seasons.

The mega-superstar/generational players I chose are: Gretzky, Bossy (Islanders were already good but Bossy made them better), Lemieux, Crosby, Ovechkin, P. Kane & Stamkos. The latter two may not be considered as 'generational' by some but they are above superstar status in my opinion. As McDavid is in year 8, I looked at the teams these other players played on and compared how the team progressed and/or regressed after their arrival. Of course, this season isn't complete but the Oilers are currently 5th in the Pacific, which is not acceptable to me.

I did up this table for comparative reasons...McDavid is clearly overdue on a first cup appearance (aside from the Ovechkin anomaly) and has the most playoff misses after his first appearance with his eighth season still in question so it just goes to show how terrible the team has been built around him (which we already knew). All these other players had a team built around them to be a perennial playoff contender and here we are in year 8 not certain if they're even a wildcard team. It's a shame. The last two rows were just to compare where these teams were we are now, with 7 full seasons and 8 half completed.

Back at the 80s there was only 21 teams. Just five teams didnt play playoffs. And being one of those teams is like really bad.

Pittsbirgh bought themsself to a cup.
Get Francis, Trottier, Tocchet, U Samuelsson.
Our compared is Leon(2C)Hyman, Kane, but misses that rugged Dman.
Thats a differ.

Wven comparing to history, Holland is behind the agenda.

The D need is real, even if its Luke Schenn, they should get it done.

"Connor McDavid officially has a snowplow named after him.

Edmonton Oilers captain was all chuckles when he found out that Connor McBlade-It was one of over half a dozen names chosen by the City of Edmonton as a winner of its “Name a Plow Contest” earlier Wednesday.

“Pretty funny,” McDavid told media. “That’s Edmonton. They’re hockey crazy. That’s why it’s fun to play here

Hopefully he pops off vs TB tonight and then a big run against the next 5-6 opponents. He's slowed down a little over the last few games, really want him to hit 150.

Now, it would really be nice if they can take that newly named snow plow, and the other ones, and get out there and finally clean up some streets with them.
