There is no McDavid to Vancouver trade, where Van doesn't walk away a worse team then they are now. The prospect pool is thin, and gutting the on ice team to get him, would be like a capped out, pick-deprived version of this year's Coyotes, except with McDavid on it. Van would be in the running for last place, with no 1st round picks coming, and McDavid would be unhappy.

Pretty much sums up the reality of the situation. Sorry Canuck fans, it will never happen.

Stop backtracking.

You claimed McDavids career was in ruins, despite being 24 and still with plenty of chances for long playoff runs.

All this and already a better individual hardware collection then Crosby.

Canucks always chasing tails.

Worry about the 0 cups on 55 years instead of the Oilers and McDavid.

lol, nobody claimed McD’s career was in ruins, nice try

This all started w your comment that Van wouldn’t know what to do with his talent

Lol, like Edmonton is doing anything w it

You made a dumb comment, just take the L already

mcdavid's contract is not the problem.

No. It is exactly the problem.

Shave $4m off and they can afford a good winger or goalie, and if they had McDavid had a lower cap hit, the internal structure would not allow Nurse's contract wouldn't be that bad.

You did say something like this ... "Like Edmonton is doing a bang up job with McDavid's career" and then Flash pointed out what McDavid has done on the oilers (which would be HIS career) so you're the one taking the L not Flash, but whatever floats your boat, right?

Once again, McDavid would be achieving individual accomplishments anywhere. . Edmonton hasn’t provided him w the support to make those mean anything OTHER than individual accomplishments. . If you think the Oilers haven’t been wasting years of his career, you do you

For clarification purposes, though I think this is obvious , McDavid is doing a fine job with his career, the Edmonton organization is not

It's have to be a package built around Pettersson/Hughes for McDavid/Barrie and likely more futures from Van. But, we are living in a fantasy world, trading McDavid with 4 years left is waiving the white flag to the fans and would likely lead to a fan revolt.

The deal you list is missing Demko and Podkolzin.

Stfu lol.

You're kidding me.

An underachieving overrated forward

underachieving- yes
Over rated? - until recently nope. Not at all. The kid has been amazing.

A small defenseman who is below average at defending and pretty good at passing

Haven’t paid attention to Quinn lately eh?
He is miles better than Nurse, and 2.5 mill cheaper. Lol.

and a good goaltender
Elite goalie.

gets you maybe Kucherov. Not prime generational McDavid.

Just the marketing alone is too much

Vancouver had nothing no package capable of landing McDavid. McDavid himself would decline the Nucks in an instant.

I personally wouldn’t trade Hughes for McDavid.
The guy is a phenom offensively, but garbage in his own end, and hasn’t won a damn thing.
That’s not just on his team. He is no leader at all. Just a hot dogger who puts up points

This thread is dumb. Everyone knows, even if the Oilers got an incredible package for McDavid, they’d still be back to picking 1st overall every year, and probably ruin every pick and prospect they got in the trade.
And good luck disputing that.
Before McDavid, Oilers were picking 1st overall every other year at least.
They are much better at wasting high picks than developing them.

Nurse's contract is that high because Seth Jones' contract broke the structure for #1 defensemen, and despite what advanced stat watchers like to claim, Nurse put up #1 defenseman numbers last year.

If McDavid is making $8.5m, would Nurse be making more?

no no. Canucks still suck. There is a ton of work to go.

McDavid isn’t all he is cracked up to be.
His defence sucks and his salary is crippling to a team. What kind of leader needs that money? How does that help build a winner?

He is amazing at scoring goals. Sure, but what has that been doing for the oilers? He is on for more goals against than for.

three possibilities:
  1. 8x15m as soon as he can sign it
  2. traded in the last year of his contract for a massive rental package
  3. UFA for 7x16m
I think if he is certain he doesn't want to stay and is feeling generous, 2 + 3 happen

Imagine if he walked for nothing. omg, can you imagine? there would be enough tears to salt the roads for a decade although I read alberta is already built on massive salt deposits

If McDavid was making 8.5M, it wouldn't matter, because Nurse's comparable after last season would have been Jones, Werenski and Hamilton, not McDavid, and Nurse would be a UFA after this season, so he would go sign for 9M somewhere else, based on the market established by similar defensemen.
