mcdavid's contract is not the problem.

edmonton would most likely look for multiple established nhl players in a deal for mcdavid or drai. those players probably come at a higher cap hit and edmonton - lacking the required cap space - would insist to unload one or two unwanted contracts with mcdavid to also gain cap flexibility.

the op's proposal would add 1.275m to an already super tight cap. edomonton would have to clear more than 1m first to be cap compliant. the cap relief can't come only by sending pending ufas back, as it would cost them puljujärvi next summer.

Pettersson is having a down year, but his potential is sky-high. I imagine he would be good with Pulju/Yamamoto. Garland has very good numbers and is a steal at 4,95M with 5yrs. Poolman is a big stay-at-home D at 2,5M. Theese are all players Oilers would benefit from with good contracts.

Demko is elite, He has to be in the deal.
1 Star Player + Top Prospect would have to be involved
+ Multiple 1st round picks.

My for fun offer would be (If I wanted to basically blow up the canucks lol)

Demko - Would Stabilize the position for half a decade or more (Has top 3 goalie potential)
EP40 - On a slump, but everybody knows his talent.
Podkolzin / Hoglander - Young high upside prospect/players who would help the depth scoring
2 1st round picks - Future pieces, Or could be used in trades to free up cap or get more depth.

Would I do it? Honestly, no.
Way to much to give up, It would cripple the Canucks honestly. Losing Demko alone would be a massive blow, Upgrading Mcdavid for EP40 + our Depth + our Future would basically mean we have to win, and win now.
Also would need to have some guarantee that Mcdavid would stay.
