14 mil for a guy who's easy to shut down in the playoffs...

Yeah...good luck with that edmonton. All your eggs will be in that basket.

McDavid is worth it but I can't see him handcuffing the oilers like that.

I dunno, they showed him after the NHL Awards and he had a big diamond dollar sign around his neck and was going on about how "it's all bout them Benjamins."

Make my day.
If we have a look at the 3 of the biggest contracts

$124m Ovechkin
$110m Weber
$104.4m Crosby
$100m Kovalchuk
$98m Suter and Parise

Those are longer term deals and I can't see him beating Ovi or Weber, but he only needs just over $13m to take a run at Crosby.

Ya, I don't see him wanting that kinda cake and handcuffing himself and the team from even competing.

I think he will go for 5yrs @ 10M

I was thinking along those lines. I'll give the Oilers more 5 years to win the cup and leave enough money to do it. If not I will call my own shot in the heart of my prime.

Correct. Without McDavid, Edmonton would still be a laughing stock.

You could say Edmonton is now the McDavids. You sign him to a 20 million dollar deal if the league maximum is 14 million, and you consider yourself very fo3rtunate you are in such a tough position to put players around him.

If he is motivated by winning he will "settle" for something like 6 years/$66 million. I mean he'd be 27 and entering his prime at that point. Then if the cap goes up he could get a big contract with the same term. Besides he's the new face of the league meaning he will make twice his salary in endorsements. So his $11 million/year becomes like 30-40.

McDavid will hit the max. Orr's agency and the NHLPA will push for the max. This will be a firewall contract for both. Every other team in the league would be submitting a max offersheet come July 1st, 2018. His agency knows it, and the NHLPA is counting on it.

lmao anything to make you not think about having to face him for the next 10 years, right? Dude has basically done everything in his power to mention it is about team success and suddenly mr.noinsideinformation at all throws out that he is trying to take max and handcuff the "team" he keeps talking about.

he deserves it and if he wants it you pay him and worry later

He really doesn't. 1 great season and half of the contract would be RFA years.
If he demands that much then it's obvious that he doesn't give a crap about Cups and is all about the money. I would expect better from McDavid.

He doesn't owe anyone jack ****. He should get paid what he is worth. It's a cap world son, if you can't figure out a way to operate in it, get the **** outta dodge.

Again, he has had one great season and this contract would eat only 4 UFA years at best. Look at all the other 2nd contracts, none were close to max money. He hasn't really earned it yet.

McDavid is going to make a **** load in endorsements (hell, he's already on the cover of NHL '18) so he can still get paid a ton and also help build a better team around him and build a legacy as a Cup winner, not a money chaser. I don't see the need for him to chase max money right now.

Sign a 5 year contract like a lot of previous great players have and cash in on the mega deal on the 3rd contract when it was really earned. He's within his right to demand as much as he wants but I never thought of him as the "give me everything right now" type.

Don't know why other teams are happy the Oilers are going to have to pay this kid that much.
This starts the domino effect that ends up ****ing your team in the long haul too. If McDavid is worth 14mill, you best believe the average salary for a star player increases to 9+ million

Do you realize that when Crosby took his original $8.7 million deal that it was over 18% of the cap, meaning he left just over 1% of the cap hit available to him on the table? Why would McDavid take anything less? Do you honestly think the NHLPA and Orr's agency is going to let their most important player/client take any sort of discount? Use your head. This is a business and players are commodities. Both sides know it and approach it that way.

If true this would be a really selfish move and sets a bad precedent for the organization. I get McDavid is a generational talent but no player should make close to this kind of money coming off of their ELC. Do a favour to the organization that drafted you and at least give them a better chance at winning a cup by signing a short-term team friendly deal. After that go freaking nuts.
