McDavid would cost 4 first round picks if he were signed to an offer sheet.

If Edmonton doesn't open up the checkbook, then they are taking a huge risk. McDavid is worth 4 first round picks.

He's not a RFA until next summer, so there's not a lot of risk of that right now.

Didn't McKenzie report like a month or 2 ago that Draisaitl and McDavid were likely to take "hometown discounts" (i.e. not squeeze every last penny out)? Swear I read that or heard that from him and I take his word in much higher regard than Dreger who typically has very little actual insider information and just throws **** at a wall to see what sticks. I don't think Dreger has ever called anything Oilers related in his life. I'll believe the 14M for McDavid when I see it.

No kidding.

He'll end up getting the max salary (20% of the cap). He's worth every penny of it. The Oilers are **** without him.
You only wish lol I think he wants to win he has already made 7-8 million in salaries and endorsements already . Like his father told him about being drafted to a team that might not be his choice you don't want to be that guy I am sure he feels the same way about his contract , he does not want to be the guy that can't win because teams can't build a winner because of cap. Love how haters are jumping all over this pure speculation as fact. And of course it comes form a Torotno hack as well. Typical

Dreger is a hack in general. He doesn't know anything about the leafs and just throws stuff together. I think Mcdavid signs for 9.7 like Crosby did for 8.7(their numbers)

"There are whispers"

Yeah, and there's yelling that Dreger is an eastern hack who hates the Oilers. Can't say he wants out of Edmonton given what McDavid said last night (and over the last 2 years), so now he's going with 'max contract'. And already backpedaling. Guy's a clown.

Why not? I am still not convinced he actually likes being there. Even if he does if they won't pay it then someone else will. He is getting $14M
I think the same way. There is an unspoken tax to play in garbage city's If the oil or any other small market hole in the wall want him its gong to be for the max.
Tired of hearing oh he won't handcuff his team like that. He could get injured next year and never play the game again. Unless you truly love the city like burr the sedins Iginla. Most players are gonna get every penny they can. TBH I was watching his reaction on youtube when he got drafted. Does that really look like the face of A guy who was like yeah I'm going to deadmonton. AS for the face of the Nhl sorry Crosby still the king. After that I'm looking at Mathews all Connor does is mostly get assists. and didn't really play very well night in night out in the playoffs. Austin is A goal scorer and brought it in the playoffs more so I think. Watch Connor sign right up till UFA status then bolt to the east while Mathews goes home to the yotesLoyalty died with Kane and Toews

I mean Dreger also state Eberle was going to get a top 4 D-man like 80 times. His Edmonton knowledge tends to be lacking.

I Have a feeling he signs for 10.6 -11 Million makes him highest paid in league with probably front loaded 1st few years signing bonuses.

Typical HF garbage right here.

You're both living in denial.

if the cap is 77M

That means 44M for 14 F
33M for 7D/2G

F
6-8-3=17
3-6-5=14
1-4-2=7
1-2-1 = 4
1 1 =2
TOT F= 44

D/G
7-5=12
5-4=9
3-2-1=6
5-1=6
TOT=33

IF you sign McDavid to 14M you are effectivly removing your 2nd line center /top winger/top 3 Dmen and replacing then with a journeyman/ELC player and take a little money from elsewhere.

Good.

This kind of contracts are just perfect for tankers. Back to mediocrity.

No more tail-end contracts saving their arses. Only great depth drafters will succeed.

To be honest if McDavid costs 14 million then yes it could affect leafs. If the leafs three young guns progress this season then it may cost a fortune to have all three. So I wouldn't disagree with you. But time will tell I guess. Regardless it won't be cheap for the leafs either.

I could easily be wrong, but I don't think McDavid is a guy who takes the max instead of $10M or so. As a Ducks fan I HOPE HE DOES, but in reality don't think so. Something we we'll see.
