So many haters, McDavid could help the Oilers win a cup and people would say he needs to win two to prove its not a fluke.
I used to think that way, but I'll be honest. If this year is a peak and he reverts to much lower numbers, then maybe. If he puts up a few seasons similar to this one, it changes the narrative. I find myself now saying, if he could at least make it to the finals, win or lose. Then it's can he make it to several conference finals and play well in the playoffs. He's chipping away at that narrative, at least for me. I can't imagine I'm alone in this thinking. So many haters, McDavid could help the Oilers win a cup and people would say he needs to win two to prove its not a fluke.
This is why I hope the Habs never win another cup in my lifetime.Hopefully with a new team he has a measure of success. He deserved much better than starting his career with Edmonton.
Habs are one team that's run even worse than Edmonton has been. Future looks bad too. Nick Suzuki is meh typical 60 point player, horrible defensively paid near 8 million yikes! As a player he's already in the running for best of all time and ahead of everyone not named Gretzky and Lemieux,. As a sportsman (which includes championships) he's obviously behind.

And what would you hope for if it was said by a jets fan. Or Sabres, or stars, or coyotes fan. Or any fan. This is why I hope the Habs never win another cup in my lifetime.

Edmonton supporters have every right to bristle at the notion that McDavid should leave their team but it doesn't change the fact that the Oilers organization has not served hockey well. McDavid should be the Leo Messi of hockey but instead his reputation is under-inflated because of the team he's stuck on. On one hand it serves him right for signing that contract with the Oilers, but on the other than it's just a shame overall. And what would you hope for if it was said by a jets fan. Because it isn’t exactly wrong, as much as it hurts your feelings.
And I live the guy, but I was not be surprised if in a few months the narrative isn’t “how could the oilers take the goaltending they chose into the playoffs with a prime McDavid”.
So, do you disagree that the oilers have shit the bed with the opportunity that a true generational player is supposed to give you? Or is that no one should mention it, because it makes you angry?
Well the Oilers have at least 3 seasons left of McDavid so I guess we will see.So, do you disagree that the oilers have shit the bed with the opportunity that a true generational player is supposed to give you? Or is that no one should mention it, because it makes you angry?
Maybe if you whine about it enough you can reverse the timeline?Edmonton supporters have every right to bristle at the notion that McDavid should leave their team but it doesn't change the fact that the Oilers organization has not served hockey well. Only a doorknob would criticise McDavid's playoff performance in the context of his career with the Oilers. It's the Oilers that failed to elevate (at all times, not just the playoffs). Three more years of McDavid with the Oilers, I think it's a steep ask to expect a trade but we can only hope he doesn't get injured until he hits UFA. Very curious to see how his career shapes up -- like I said, he should be the Leo Messi of hockey but he's barely an afterthought and it has to do with the problems of the Oilers not him.Well the Oilers have at least 3 seasons left of McDavid so I guess we will see.
People love to jump the gun on narratives. A few years ago it was "McDavid can't elevate in the playoffs". Anyone who said that looks like a complete doorknob now.
Do you think this is whining? Have you not been an Oiler fan for the past decade+, I think you should know what whining looks and sounds like.Maybe if you whine about it enough you can reverse the timeline?
I would say that if people were saying that McDavid couldn’t elevate in the playoffs a few years, that opinion would likely be coming from a place of emotional hate, rather than logic.Well the Oilers have at least 3 seasons left of McDavid so I guess we will see.

This the same Habs team that had one of the best Canadian goalies ever and couldn't build anything infront of him? While being one of the premiere destinations in hockey?Only a doorknob would criticise McDavid's playoff performance in the context of his career with the Oilers. The Habs were poorly run, that's for sure. Marc Bergevin was a terrible GM and squandered Carey Price's prime. Price isn't the GOAT, he's not remotely close to being the GOAT. McDavid is. The Oilers have done McDavid dirty -- I'm not sure why you're upset. Do you really think you should defend the Oilers organization's honour right now -- in this context? This the same Habs team that had one of the best Canadian goalies ever and couldn't build anything infront of him? Stop being a clown.
This is slightly more reasonable than the other comment above, so I'll give you kudos. You act like this is the first occurrence of something similar happing in hockey. Bourque didn't win for forever. A truly generational goalie in Hasek didn't win until later in his career. It took the Pens 7 years to win with Mario, and they airdropped Larry Murphy and Ron Francis onto the team. That's not possible with the cap anymore. Took forever for the Caps and Ovie to get over the hump.
Yeah it would make for a nice bedtime story if the Oilers and McDavid won the cup 3 years ago, but things don't always fall together perfectly. McDavid was always going to a poorly managed team because he was the first overall pick so its not like results would be guaranteed to be dramatically different elsewhere.
The scary thing about Mcdavid is that he always elevates when it matters most. At the end of the year and in the playoffs he enters god mode. Lost in the backround of Mcdavids season, Draisaitl and RNH are having career seasons as well. Drai will hit 120 pts and RNH should hit 100. Can't ever remember seeing 3 guys with 100 pts on the same team
And they finished 1,2 and 4 in scoring!Has to be the Pens in 95-96 with Lemieux, Jagr, and Francis. I can’t imagine anyone did it after that when the puck died.
Yeah but you're forgetting about blocked shots in Tuesday night home games with 8:30PM starts when the moon is full! Matthews crushes McDavid there!Well there goes that one bragging right Leafs fans had of Matthews > McDavid.
We now have a new best goal scorer in the world
