The excerpt: McDavid tells teammate he just wants to win
You: Wow, this just tells me all he cares about is points.
I mean this is the first time in my life I've ever heard of a hockey player feeling the need to apologize to a teammate for hurting his stats. Even if it doesn't prove McDavid is worried about his stats, it shows his teammates think he is, which is a big enough problem in itself.

I heard Elias Pettersson is asking for a trade to Edmonton as the Canucks are a pile of garbage.
I don’t understand how you think this is funny?

The Oilers can’t win a cup with f***ing the two best players in the world for the last half decade.

That’s something you should be laughing about

I'm laughing about Canucks fans talking the most crap every offseason when their team is disgrace. Maybe you guys should spend a bit more time focusing on reality.

What a slave driver, imagine your co-worker telling you to cut your vacation and come to work 2 weeks early and leave your family....lol.

Bump this thread a couple weeks into the playoffs.
More like, your teams captain, your leader asking you guys to go all in for the ultimate team goal while he leads the way.

People shitting on this remind me a lot of some of my teammates I've had in competitive sports throughout the years. There was the guys who cared about winning and putting in OT to make it happen. Then there were the guys crying and whining about having to work hard or that their captain was being mean to them.

Blows my mind how some people are trying to make this to be a negative thing. If the guys in the room just wanna do their 9-5 crap and the bare minimum required, they'll get bare minimum results. It's obvious McDavid wants to win, he just doesn't want to play hockey for fun or for a paycheck.

Kobe Bryant did very similar things and weeded out the players that weren't about competing hard and putting in the work to win a championship. I would be f***ing thrilled as an Oilers fan, this guy is all in, leading the charge and asking his teammates to put in the extra work with him.

Reality is that before McDavid and now with McDavid Edmonton is still one of the least respected teams.

Vancouver is a perpetually mediocre team, Edmonton is just perpetually here for the laughs

Is this a real quote? I would actually kind of respect a hockey player actually having the balls to put out a quote like this in September.

I mean there's nothing really that out there about that quote. They were the highest scoring team in the league last year by a country mile even well above the Bruins who had a miracle "once every 30 years" kind of regular season.

High scoring teams are exciting.

Teammates ask McDavid to cut out the diving and start backchecking.

Western Canadians upset their team doesn't have the generational player resorting to diving accusations ... a time honored tradition going back to when Canucks and especially Flames doofus fans used to chant "Whiner Wayne" to Gretzky, lol. Or see also: Flyer fans and Crosby.

You wish the Canucks were mediocre.

Canucks are a perpetually terrible team. 29th in all time winning percentage. 50 years of irrelevance.

10+ Dallas guys have been skating for well over a week at this point. This coming week is probably 20+

Basically every team does this outside of markets you don't want to go to early.. like Winnipeg/Edmonton/Buffalo/etc.

This kind of goes completely against the context of the original post

No one wants to go, but McDavid requested it this year, so players went. This goes in line 100% with the original post actually that the Captain had to request players to come in early rather than showing up like every other market.

The main point is that others teams have been together for just as long, it was just a fluff article to get clicks. McDavid asking or not, it’s already happening across the league and has been for years. Hell they even have a name for it

The Oilers have shown up like every market in the past. The difference was that this year essentially every player came early. Like Dallas had 10 a week ago and the Oilers had 20.

Its not a big deal, but it was an opportunity for someone in the Edmonton media to write an article on it.

I would bet millions that the Oilers, in past, did not have many guys show up early like you claim. No one wants to go to these places early and will extend their summers.

Why do you think McDavid requested it? Because not enough guys were showing up.

Bad Captain, players need a rest he’s ruining their fun!

But seriously isn’t this normal? At least for teams under fan/media/internal pressure to achieve something. I feel like the Caps have done this at least in the past.
