Every team has informal skates at this point. Some better attended than others. This is nothing out of the ordinary.

That would be the difference here, the entire team is in town now instead of some guys arriving a couple days before camp starts.

Fluff piece but I don’t doubt that McDavid cares about winning about his legacy. He will be 27 by the halfway mark of the season. That seems crazy to me…I still see him through the lens of a teenage phenom. Then again, I’m old enough to remember Sid as a prep school phenom at SSM and then as some young NHL star that fans loved to hate on. But before you knew it, he was a Cup champ and the epitome of a grinding vet star, training younger guys like MacKinnon.

McD knows what is at stake every season. And you don’t get as out of this world as he is without putting in the grind and the effort.

I mean, we've had the "Training Camp" thread up on the HFAvs for several days already...most of the big guys are in town and practicing, MacK's been doing extra work with Drouin afterward, etc., even though it's all optional.

Caps' core is basically all already skating together, and the first group started back in August:

And Wilson just got in soon after as one of the last main names off the list. Is it the entire roster? I don't know, nobody's made that official so probably not but usually by now most of the team is skating together.

So yeah, a lot of teams do it pretty naturally and I'm more surprised that it's written in a way that sounds like McDavid had to ask when these fools all have social media and know the league is starting to rumble already. If Edmonton isn't a team that also already does this I'd be very curious as to why, considering they haven't earned taking it easy yet.
