I don't want Mazur in the top 9 unless he plays the lights out in training camp. I want us getting someone good from outside the orginization that bumps people down 1-2 spots where they belong. If we have the same top 9-10 forwards it will be another crappy year for us, unless Raymond gets going again.

I like what I've seen from him at the Worlds so far.

If Matthew Knies is as NHL ready as he appeared to be in the playoffs, then I think Carter Mazur is too. Kind of at the point where it would be slightly disappointing if he didn't at least make the team out of camp and start the season with us, because I think he's more ready than say, Soderblom was to start this past season.

There was no special teams role, because Hronek was on PP. And they liked to go PK with Seider + vets.
Exactly and what special teams roles would be open for Mazur, if he starts the season in the 4th line?

Veleno played 32:22 min on PK and 31:12 in PP last season, that's 24 sec per game on PK and 23 sec per game on PP. Not very meaningful minutes.

Zadina played 1:31 on PK and 24:00 on PP, 0:03 sec per game on PK and 0:48 sec per game on PP.

Most of the main PK guys are coming back and i would expect to see Suter re-signed, in that case only PK guys who ain't coming back are Erne and Sundqvist. They were playing 3rd line minutes and i could see Mazur in the 3rd line but if Fabbri is healthy and Yzerman signs another winger. Tie goes to the veteran and Mazur starts in GR.

Bert is still traded and when Ras got hurt he wasn't on the PP anyway.
Only reason why Chiasson even got to play for Detroit, was because they were short of players. Bert & Sunny got traded and Ras was injured. If Ras would have been healthy, he would have had those PP minutes.

Chiasson capitalized the situation, scored a couple of goals and got stay on PP rest of the season. This won't be the case in October. Top-9 guys will play in PP units.

Mazur can be the new Homer. 4th line PP specialist.

Knies stepped in and looked solid in the playoffs. Mazur is an extremely comparable prospect with a similar pro style game and has actually looked better than Knies when they played on the same team.

I'm fine if Mazur starts in the A next year for sure, but he could be ready for the NHL next year for sure.

Eventually he might but Mazur has top-6 potential, it would be better for his development to start in GR. Big role there, 1st line, PP1, PK2 at least. If Wings miss the playoffs trade Perron, Kubalik, Fabbri and promote Mazur to top-6 role for rest of the year. If can handle that, then start him in a top-6 role 2024 and if he can handle that for a full season then we got a top-6 grinder ladies and gentleman. But if he can't, then Mazur get's to be in that bottom-6 role for rest of his career.
Hope to see Lombardi on that line , Elmer with Wings?
That would work too, i would start Elmer in GR as well.

Mazur - Kasper - Lombardi/Söderblom
Lombardi/Söderblom - Czarnik - Luff
Hirose - L'Esperance - Hanas
Spezia - Weatherby - Shine
Bliss - Worrad - Doucet
Tyutyayev - Sawchuk - Zito

Wallinder - Johansson
McIsaac - Newpower
Viro - Tuomisto
Sebrango - Biakabatuka
"Goon" - Barton

"Kinkaid"
Cossa
Lethemon

Not like terrible ideas but how the roster is shaped at this exact moment: This is what a projected depth chart would look like to me. There are some players to be signed of coarse cause Red Wings have to hit the cap floor, literally have to spend at least 11.5 million or more to hit the floor. That said this is what a Roster might look like now with no moves at all. The guys with and asterisks (*) are first years/debatable depending on how many signings are made. Really the major hole on the team is RHD defensemen behind Seider, imo.

Dominik Kubalik – Dylan Larkin – Lucas Raymond
David Perron – Andrew Copp – Jonatan Berggren
Robby Fabbri – Michael Rasmussen – * Carter Mazur
Joe Veleno – * Marco Kasper – * Elmer Soderblom

Austin Czarnik
Filip Zadina

Jake Walman – Mortiz Seider
* Simon Edvinsson – ???
Ollie Maatta – Ben Chiarot

* Albert Johansson.

Ville Husso
* Sebastian Cossa / ???

I mention this because people don't want to spend money on free agents, but also don't want to pay the piper it'd take to bring in major talent. Long story short somethings coming, becasuse it has to, Yzerman isn't going to sign over pay a bunch of 2/3 year guys to block out these guys that are bolded/asterisk, imo. DeBrincat is also a RFA, always can offer-sheet him and possibly just lose a 1st-2nd-3rd rdp. ( Wings have Bostons 1st rdp. )

Gimme more 1 or 2 year Kubalik, Perron, Maatta type deals. Gimme less 4 year Chiarot type deals.

Does thefree agent market this year with the money needed to spend suggest we're going to get those type of deals? I mean FA isn't good, and Wings literally have to spend money. Like have to, by league rules.

I want gold over silver too but look at the free agents available and what Red Wings actually have to do. I mean idk I guess they can overpay for a guy or two for 1 year but idk how likely that is. Almost all will be looking for multi-year deals.
