Maybe we should give the Habs some credit.

All I know is we've been told the Habs are bad, Leafs were great and destined for greatness this season.
Instead the franchise embarrassed themselves yet again, and the Habs are having the dream season and we're all left trying to figure out why this team has had a couple of playoffs with some success in the last 54 years.

The Habs have won more series' in the last 8 days than the Leafs have in the last 17 years. They're supposedly terrible, but Leafs were the team to walk through the North. 3-1.

Logan f***in' Stanley scored just as many goals in 5 minutes last night as the entire Leafs top line ($25 million) did the entire playoffs. We don't need to give the Habs credit, they're earning it themselves.
Whether us as fans want to blame it on injuries, or suspensions it doesn't matter.
Despite the injuries it was a 3-1 series lead. Yet again, the franchise embarrasses itself and its fans. Until they find a way to hold players accountable it'll be the same thing going forward.

Marner makes $4.1 million more than Brayden Point. $4.2 million more than David Pastrnak. Both of those deals were signed at a similar timeframe.
$4 million in cap space allows the team to have a far better supporting cast, so we aren't having to rely solely on 37 year old Jason Spezza to provide some bottom 6 offense.

This franchise has a problem. All the money, resources, analytics, everything, even the ROCKET RICHARD WINNER and still managed to make fools of themselves in the first round.

The exit interviews were the same old bullshit we've been accustomed to. Excuses. Matthews is 3 years away from free agency (that's another farce). 5 years of 1st round exits.
Next year the divisions go back to normal. We'll likely get Tampa or Boston in the first round. This doesn't get easier, it gets far more difficult.

That young Caufield kid was the spark that ignited the Habs.
He set up the OT winner last night. How sad is it that he has already been a better player then Marner........what a freaking disgrace

I should stop reading posts......lol
I agree with this 100% and that angers me some much.
At this point I would trade Marner for just about anything just to be rid of him and his disgusting contract and sense of entitlement. If he was half as good as he thinks he is, we might have moved on

lol.. no he's not.
True, he's not.
Although who do you think has had a bigger impact in the playoffs for their team?
One has been in the league for 5 seasons.
The other has been in the league for 19 games.
One makes $10,930,000 million.
The other makes $880,833.

In no world is Caulfield a better player than Marner right now, but he's helping a Habs team keep rolling, while setting up 2 game winning goals.
Marner threw a puck 50 feet over the glass without an opposing player within 15 feet of him.

Yes - Marner's playoff performance has been disappointing, and he makes much more. I think we all already know this by now, don't we?

Hard not to be a little bit impressed by what MTL has been able to do, 7 wins in a row in the playoffs isn't easy no matter who your opponents are.

Compared to our Leafs that have 5 wins total under our new coach Sheldon Keefe in the last 2 playoff season combined, it sure stands out even more as Montreal is doing it with their new interim coach Dominique Ducharme hired just this mid season.

That is quite a run, Habs fans I'm sure have visions of '93 in their head, that team was down 2-0 in the first series before wining the next 4 straight then sweeping the second round. Ended up winning the first 3 in the 3rd round for 11 straight overall.

Habs are also 3-0 in OT so far, '93 team was 10-1 in OT (10 straight after losing game 1 in the first round in OT). Everything went right for that team and so far everything is going right for this years Habs.

I give the Habs credit. Sure they're getting the Carey Price blind butt-end of the stick save, and more than a few good bounces, but that's the playoffs.

You can say what you want about their talent level, but those boys are playing as hard as they could possibly play. They are leaving nothing in the tank. It must be fun to be a Habs fan right now. Kudos to them for being (gulp) Kings of the North.

Montreal has also not had a single significant injury or suspension and have been mostly playing against teams with a depleted center unit.

Their true test will be in round 3 when a full team awaits them.

That 93 team was much better than this years edition but still, as you pointed out, there are some interesting parallels for sure.

Go ahead. I hope you understand that the captain of your opponent wont be eliminated in every series.

Don't get me wrong Price has been good but Montreal cannot handle real pressure from a top quality team from a superior division.

Yet they're in the 3rd Round. If winning was so easy our group of 10+ million Superstars would've gone there already. Apparently winning is easy with loads of excuses for other teams but when it comes to the Leafs the excuses are always why they lost and shouldn't have.

agreed any self-respecting leaf fan would never give Montreal credit Guess it makes people feel the easier that we lost to the division champions just another excuse I knew somebody would bring up it up lmao

We lost. Montreal won. Montreal is in the 3rd Round. We can't see the 2nd with this group. Giving Montreal credit? Maybe not. Why is that team able to go on a run to the 3rd Round and our group of losers fold? Say what you want about Montreal, but like Columbus, Boston, and Washington before them they understood the importance of intensity down the lineup and solid goaltending. For this reason alone I'll give them credit because as untalented as us Leafs fans like to claim Montreal is they brought a playoff level work ethic to the series which tells me they have a better understanding of what it takes to win than the Leafs do.

I think a better player comparison for Cole Caufield that Leaf fans would like to see is from our own Nick Robertson.

Both kids smaller < 5'-10" & 165 lbs skilled goal scorers taken in the 2019 entry draft.

Habs took Caufield in the 1st round and Leafs traded their 1st away for Muzzin but thought they got a 1st round talent in Robertson when he fell to the 2nd round.

Best post of the entire thread. If you do not agree with this post as a Leafs fans you either A started following them this year or B are more upset they lost to Montreal than anything else.

This team is a freaking joke with no cap wiggle room to correct the mistakes that have been made with this core. Without moving Marner and/or Nylander out we will continue to ride these stupid regular season highs like Oilers fans only to be sick to our stomachs by the end of the 1st Round of the Playoffs.

We as Leafs fans deserve so much better than this bs. Thats what makes this so utterly frustrating. As a massive fanbase we are in mourning while 20 of the 31 other franchises would carry on with their lives like nothing happened. The utter incompetence of this organization are cutting us all much deeper than we care to admit.

I'd take getting swept by Lou and the Isles or Neely and the Bruins in the semi finals over what we have been privy to in the last 3 playoffs under Doobler.

It just goes to show you that the regular season results mean jack s--t in the playoffs.

In order for a team to advance in the playoffs, they need to be relatively healthy, get great goaltending, have solid depth throughout the lineup, and most importantly, have their best players show up.

We weren't fortunate with injuries, and our best players didn't show up. That was the difference for us.

I wonder if Nathan MacKinnon and Chandler Stephenson are concerned as the top centres for their teams knowing if they advance to play Montreal they will somehow be unavailable to play??
