Maybe we should give the Habs some credit.

Of course Habs deserve credit, results are all that matter. They've gotten a ton of good luck through 2 rounds but there is usually a lot of things going right for any team which goes deep.

It will be interesting to see what happens next round against COL/VGK. God-Forbid Danault gets injured.
I think the script is for Mac to break his leg as he scored the OTW in Game 7 vd. VGK, then Makar falls awkwardly into the boards in Game 1 to miss the rest of the series.

Almost forgot- Kadri triumphant return and immediate suspension all on shift 1.

The Habs faced two trash teams and are going to get swept in the next round. I give them credit for being lucky enough to face the leafs and jets in the first two rounds.

They are a very opportunistic team, I still don't think they're particularly good, or what you would expect of a true Cup contender. I think we win that series 8 or 9 times out of 10 if Tavares doesn't get hurt. They play extremely tight, and they're getting exceptional goaltending. Hats off to them.

Not to sound bitter, but I bet they miss the playoffs next year when the Atlantic Division returns, I don't think we will.

I respect a team that shows up to play, which Montreal has done the last 7 games. For whatever reason, Toronto hasn’t proven that.

Do I think Montreal is a good team? Not at all. I still don’t think they are a top 10 team in the NHL, but they’ve had a run of hot play and good fortune. I honestly think if Tavares doesn’t go down Toronto wins that’s series in 5 games max, not just because of what he individually brings, but the ripple effect it had on the line up and hole it creates.

Looks like their new system kicked in at the right time for them.......maybe the leafs hit a buzz saw?
Honestly... no. The Habs have my respect for hanging tough and then beating Winnipeg, but no. Toronto should have won; they had a 3-1 lead and the better roster from top-to-bottom, and they pissed it away. The Leafs choked, and in all my years of watching this team it is the worst choke job yet because they were the vastly better roster, home ice advantage and they had a commanding series lead.

The Leafs just pissed away the best opportunity to make a deep run since the Sundin/Mogilny era.

100%.

Leafs can't be let off the hook for their rubbish performance. The only time they showed up during the losses was in game 6's OT. That's it. Otherwise, they choked big time.

Habs (especially Price) have done a great job though. Easily deserve to be where they are. I think everyone expects them to roll over in round 3 but I think Price might have something else in mind. He could take that next series deep.

This Habs team is very different than the one from the regular season. The covid outbreak forced a condensed schedule on Mtl mid-season. Then, a slew of injuries (Price, Weber, etc...) ravaged the team mainly in the latter part of the season. Finally, the arrival of Caufield (now on the first PP wave in the playoffs) has transformed the powerplay, a problem that had been killing Mtl for years now. Combine this with Price's performance and with the removal of Drouin (least effective player on the team for a few years now), and you have a new and very balanced Habs team that play smart and tough, and is more talented than people give them credit for. There is no Matthews on the team, but all four lines can and will score on you at 5 vs 5.

Carey Price about to get himself into the biggest goaltending duel since Belfour Hasek against Fleury (if Vegas wins).

This MTL team is very good. How good were the Leafs if the Habs end up winning the Cup?

The Leafs were very good. With Tavares and Muzzin not injured, or Price being good but not great, Mtl does not advance. However, Mtl is a team on the rise now. Caufield is solving their biggest problem, which is the lack of high-end talent, especially on the PP.

Rantanen also gets a short handed breakaway in the last min of the game, but inexplicably misses the net, Ben Chiarot scoops the puck going the other way, and goes for an end-to-end rush, and scores from the blue-line on a hail-mary shoot in, as the puck hits a stanchion and goes in!

No, sorry, but no. 11.3M in salary scored 19 points for us and 9 goals (Nylander, Kerfoot, Spezza). 22.5M in salary scored 9 points for us, and 1 goal (Matthews and Marner). Our best failed.

Their top players are playing like best players, which is more we can say about our top players.
I guess they have Killer Instinct.

They’re a decent team, but we are/were significantly better ... at least in the regular season. And we went up 3 games to 1. We absolutely should have won that series, and made it through Winnipeg too. We beat ourselves.

The media spent months telling fans the north division was garbage. Guess they were right.

Cannot take this group of Leafs seriously until they win at least one round in the playoffs.

It’s a complete mental block at this point and the team has such fragile confidence that it crumbles at the slightest playoff adversity.

Respect to the Habs.

From down 3-1 against Toronto to winning seven in a row. That's pure heart from their group starting with Price.
Imagine a division headlined by star forwards like McDavid, Drai, Matthews, Marner, Scheifele, Petersson, Gaudreau and Tavares, yet the team that ended up coming out of that division is being led by Tyler freaking Toffoli as their #1 scoring threat.
