GDT: May 7 • USA vs. Belarus

Team USA has had some shocking results at the WHC over the years, mostly due to lack of player interest and thus horrible rosters

1998: France 1-3, Italy 0-4, Latvia 2-3
2001: Latvia 0-2, Austria 0-3
2003: Denmark 2-5
2010: Germany 1-2, Denmark 1-2
2014: Latvia 5-6
2015: Belarus 2-5 (at the moment)

I don't think any nation is as indifferent to the WHC as the US. Very unfortunate.
 
There's no more team in the world that Belarus has never been able to beat at the national teams level. USA was the last one.
 
How awful is Gardiner playing to be on the 4th line on a team with this little depth???

That's what I've been saying for years on these boards. But at least they've given equal opportunities to all teams, that they've played against. Even the weakest ones. Very democratic of them! :)

I've never said that. We honestly don't care about reasons. We know that NHL teams allowed every single Russian to go and didn't allow every single Belarusian to play at the WC.
 
Best team on the night won the game. Nothing more mystical than that. Props to Belarus for playing very good, opportunistic hockey.

Paul MacLean did one in the 2013 series against the Canadiens with 17 seconds left and a 6-1 lead.



“You let players dictate (the game). As a coach you never want to humiliate the other team. It’s exactly what MacLean wanted to do. For me it’s a total lack of class. Even when I mentioned it to the referee he had never seen that either at 17 seconds,” Therrien said.

“Whatever he’s going to say, it’s 6-1 with 17 seconds left.”
