GDT: May 7 • USA vs. Belarus

As a belarusian I don't really care how other countries call us. It's just easier to distinguish foreigners from local lads.

Well... now at least we got a decent chance for 4th spot. Too bad we'll bump into Canada.

Honest question, but were there individual NHL teams that let players from one country go, but not players from other countries?

1998: France 1-3, Italy 0-4, Latvia 2-3
2001: Latvia 0-2, Austria 0-3
2003: Denmark 2-5

2014: Latvia 5-6
2015: Belarus 2-5 (at the moment)

I don't think any nation is as indifferent to the WHC as the US. Very unfortunate.

Horrible and horrible.

USA sends NHL players and good players from KHL/NCAA/Euro leagues to the WC. They are not sending players from the ECHL and other beer leagues.

Level of hockey in Europe are good, cant expect USA to win all the games every year. Denmark, Belarus etc are not bad.

We're in 1st place right now and we still haven't lost in regulation. Probably for the 1st time ever after 4 games. Try to be optimistic :)
I was laughing at Lewis when he stated that medals are his goal. Now I kind of believe it's possible.

It's always better to be pessimistic, u will be only pleasantly surprised in this case :laugh:

But seriously, I wouldn't bet on points vs Russia, it's going to be an emotional game, but Russia probably going to be super motivated (May09, loss to USA and all). So I call a dramatic defeat in regulation.

Finland is a key, we need to get points vs them and it might be good enough for 3rd. The problem is that game vs Finland will be a meat grinder with 1 day to rest before a must-win game.

That May09 date is a reason why I want Belarus to beat Russia as never before. 100% of our territory was occupied, 25% of population was killed, but the victory in the war is their for some reason. Our guys should be motivated even more than Russians.
And I don't even try to make any predictions past this game, they've done more than I expected already.

Oh don't get me wrong, I know that Belarus will be motivated more, much more than Russia on May09, unfortunately I just think Russia will be motivated well enough and won't be as arrogant as usual. I sure will be rooting for Belarus, just won't be mad if we lose in regulation as long as we put a good fight.
 
Eichel has looked pretty good so far. He may be physically more ready for the NHL than McDavid right now.

I agree with you. But I'm still pumped after the game and can't be as calm and reasonable as you're :). Our team is gonna put a fight, that's for sure.
 
My tape-delayed thoughts:
-Larkin is so smart
-Dumb*** Hendricks
-Arcobello looking nice on the PK
-Really strong game by Arcobello. Touching the puck all over the ice, confident, making plays. Might be USA's best player today.
-Unlucky to give up that 1st goal, as we probably should've scored at least once right before they did
-Another damn near cherry picking goal by Belarus :shakehead
-And a guy scores coming out of the box. Unbelievable.
-Pure brilliance from Eichel on the Brock Nelson goal
-Eichel heating up
-Dumb*** penalty by Lewis. you KNOW that's a penalty internationally.
-Ben Smith scored on his own goal, in case you were wondering what it was like to be a Sharks fan this season.
-Acrobello with another sweet setup. should have 2-3 pts tonight,
-Krug doing his best to convert me into a fan. Always thought he was overrated, but he's changing my mind. He's been great.
-5-2 Belarus. another breakaway. Sexton is garbage. I'd pull Campbell out of mercy, but he's gonna have to eat this one.
 
not a big deal imo, better to lose now than with France or Swizerland in the QF
 
Why is it that the US always craps the bed after a Russia game these days? The US coaches need to take Herbie Brooks coaching lessons.
