This team is a reflection of its personnel. It's been mismanaged for 6 years. But I understand that blaming the coach is easiest.
It is the easiest and probably the most correct. That doesn't mean it's the only problem. However, it is the easiest to fix and the best first step to start looking at what you actually have.

To me it looks like they aren't playing or responding toRuff anymore, and that's terminal

This. The message is stale and the players need a new fresh face with some enthusiasm to get them going again. They just look like they aren't having fun. And I know its their job to play and not always supposed to be fun.

My theory though, is that people perform better at their jobs when they are enjoying them.

When the feeling is this much against Ruff, surely notice must be taken at some point!

Who knows what is going on in Pegula's head?

On the one hand, Pegula seems to genuinely care about pleasing the fans, and also to genuinely want to build a winning team.

On the other hand, he is obviously fond of Regier and Ruff and wanted to give them ample opportunity to build a winner with his resources and support.

This situation has to make him feel very conflicted.

My personal opinion is that Pegula will ultimately concede to fan pressure and his own desire to win, and direct the firing of at least Ruff (probably not Regier), but not until after this season. It's a shortened-season, and I suspect Pegula's personal respect and admiration for Ruff will lead him to let Ruff serve out the remaining few dozen games, and not subject him to the embarrassment of a mid-season firing.

I agree that I don't think it will be a mid-season firing. I would happily see the end of both Rigeir and Ruff as there's blame on both parts in my eyes. Alot of our players aren't good enough and as we saw last night, if Vanek doesn't fire the team is not gonna win. If Pegula wants a team with any chance of competing in the playoffs, let alone winning the Stanley Cup, then I believe a change is needed, it's simply grew too stagnant.

Pegula can put up all the front he wants about supporting the GM and the coach.

What about the Terry Pegula that got disgusted by the 2004-2005 lockout and stopped watching (until his daughters resparked his interest)?

How can he not be disgusted by Lindy Ruff over the past 2 years? He has to be, at some level.

I do think it won't be mid-season as well and he would extend Ruff the opportunity to move to a different position in the organization.

Is there much anti Ruff sentiment actually at the games yet, in amongst the crowd?

I don't know about other sections but in my section last night, about 5-6 times throughout the game, a guy yelled "I want a new coach". And I yelled back "So do I".

It's not much, but if it catches on, it may have an impact. I think once a couple signs get hung up then it may really take off at the games.

Fire Lindy chants will be coming. But lets be honest, Sabres fans have been in a daze since Drury/Briere. Its just not the same in there. Sabres fans need a new coach as much as the team does, we are stuck in neutral.

You might say it would be more embarrassing to Ruff to have to finish a year coaching an team that he's lost...

Anyone have a good grasp on what Ruff's current contract is?

I think it was signed in early 2011 for 3 years with a 4th year option. If that is right, this is his 2nd year.

So when the Blues started out bad and mad no moves other than a coaching change and went on a tear how is that explained.

Or when the Penguins won the cup

Or how Florida made the playoffs.

or how Montreal is doing good this year with just an addition of an 18 year old and their 1 dman back but still. Are Cole and Gionta getting any better? No their a tad worse.

this team needs a new coach. simple.

Don't they have Ribeiro and René Bourque to? I get what your saying though. It's all about the coach. I wanted Ken Hitchcock before the Blues grabbed him. It's funny how when he was hired they did a complete 180. Sabres just seem to be regressing with there continuity. Time for a change. IMO they need to change R n R asap. The quicker the better. Why waste time this? They can get a head start if they look into it now and start this change. By next year they will have the system down. Not mid season next season.

They had Borque last year and Ribero is on the caps. I don't really care too much about Regier seems like when he brings players in Ruff handcuffs them. That's why these players so so well for the most part when they leave here. Ruff is a damn joke.

I realize the guy did bring us to the Cup finals once in his 15 years, but in spite of that remarkable achievement that will certainly go down in the annals of hockey history as one of the most successful coaching tenures ever, he still needs to go.
