Firing Ruff now would at least be a sop to the fans (players?) and provide some hope for next year. I think a lot of people (players?) are still nervous that Ruff might stay.

My only fear would be that they put James Patrick in at the interim coach and then decide to keep him full time next year.

They have to realize that they need a fresh set of eyes, right?:crossfing

I'd rather get rid of his stupid face right now and let an interim coach continue to run the team into the ground until we get a real coach in the offseason.

I'm just afraid a new voice will provide a spark. The only thing we're sure of is Lindy can't provide any spark - ever.

Does Scotty Bowman still live in the Buffalo area? Wonder if he'd be interested in an advisory role in cleaning up this mess.

Wasn't Scotty pretty awful in his first twirl as a personnel guy in Buffalo? I'd prefer a sharp, hungry general manager who's forward-thinking and wants to put together a fast, aggressive club.

I'm also a little worried that if Lindy is fired during the season it will light a fire under the players asrses and we end up just screwing up our draft position. If Lindy is fired, it will be because this team is completely out of the race, so we may as well tank instead and fire him after the season. The organization loves Lindy so much as well that I think they allow him to finish out the season, and then Lindy will "step down"

As for Bowman, he's too old now IMO, isn't he near 80?

As would I. Go young and new, stay ahead of the curve. Something the Bills have failed miserably at.

He dismantled a perennial contender and set the organization back years. Not only that but he alienated the fan base by trading fan favorites in moves that didn't really pan out but did get them early draft picks. That was his last GM position though he worked again as a coach and then as an adviser.

Sort of. A lot of those issues came with having too much control and being able to turn around and trade guys on a whim after bad practices, shifts, etc. He was fine in Chicago in a consulting role, and I think that's all he's looking for nowadays anyway, especially if he doesn't have anymore idiot kids to legacy into the GM role.

And yes, a fast, high energy puck possession team would be nice. We haven't had anything close to one of those since dressing Tim Kennedy at center, and that only lasted 25 games or so.

Possibly. Hopefully that patience isn't rooted in some kind of man-crush on his employees though right?

It's to be admired that Pegula didn't walk in as some ruthless overseer who chopped off everyone's heads. Okay, so it proves the man probably has a heart and is an optimist. When does it end though? There is patience and then there is, well, insanity.

If he were more ruthless how different would this team be? The Sabres were dead the year he took over mid-season. Then word reaches the team that an owner who wants stanley cups is buying the team, and low and behold, the team starts to play magnificent and squeezes into the post season! On top of that, they draw the reigning eastern conference champion philadelpha flyers and come within a goal post (drew stafford) in game 6 of burying them!

What a no nonsense owner might have done for the teams attitude, I don't know. Just looking into the past here.

Roenick: Time to fire Sabres coach Ruff.
“It’s time. They’ve changed owners, they’ve changed players. The only thing they haven’t changed is GMs and coaches, and you have to change your coach before you change your GM. Regier has constantly put his faith in Ruff, and I don’t know what it is. I know Lindy Ruff is a great hockey coach, and he has been a great hockey coach for the Buffalo Sabres for a long time, but it’s stalling again. And it’s not working,†Roenick said. “It’s time for a coaching change. I don’t know if the players think so, but the record shows it.â€
“You can’t play 15, 16 years and be one of the longest-standing coaches and be losing like this and still get the OK nod and support fromyour GM,†Roenick said.
