More like Peltonen was a passenger and a sure pick for so long. He was great mid-90's-early 00's, unlike Lehterä though.

If you win Kazakhstan, you basically have to hope that Latvia doesn't get any more than 1 point in their games vs. Belarus and Switzerland.

OR you have to hope that Belarus doesn't get more than 2 points.

Overall it's not that unlikely that you will qualify even if you lose vs. USA.

Obviously not, this tournament has just been a catastrophe even before the beginning. Erkka wouldn't have many Olympic caliber players for the next three big international tournaments, and if this is how he approaches putting together the team he will likely have little success in a job where the aim is WHC success.

Realistically, because of the Olympic bronze he probably wouldn't get the pink slip.
