That team played very well had good chemistry, they had everything this team does not have. (Koivu, Granlund,Ruutu,Pihlström,Aaltonen) Dont even compare the -14 team with the gold team.

Sure, they're not as good, but then again, you don't need to be to win this one. They obviously have to get hot, though.

I'm not completely hopeless yet. I see both Latvia and Russia as favourites against Belarus. Also, in 2011 we started like **** as well and we all know how that ended.

Putin & Lukashenko are friends and Russia could lose on Purpose to get their brothers and home team to move to quarters. I will bet my money on Belarus. Maybe it helps, as my luck is horrible anyway.

I don't really care about the Deserving concept. History has shown that deserving does not work. Better to be lucky team than the best team of the tournament. If we get to quarters some how, it makes no difference to me from winning all games 6-0 before quarters.

Did anyone hear the announcers say that. Kevin Hayes signed with the Coyotes?
No, I didn't hear that. It's possible they misspoke or someone misheard while they were talking about Connor Murphy or someone else. As previously mentioned, Chicago holds Hayes' rights until August 15, so he can't sign with anyone but Chicago until then unless he's traded.

Despite the loss against USA, Finland still can reach the quarterfinal.
All depends now on the games between Switzerland-Latvia, Latvia-Belarus
and Russia-Belarus.
If Belarus and Latvia gets only maximum 2 points of the last 2 games, then Finland should advance to the quarterfinal.

Assuming Finland wins against Kazakhstan and Belarus and Latvia both get only 2 points from the last 2 games, the situation would look like that:

Finland 11 points
Belarus 11 points
Latvia 11 points

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in this case Finland would advance because they had the best goal or second best goal difference depending on the result between Latvia-Belarus of the games against each other.

Is goal differential the tiebreaker?

Sorry you are right my calculation doesn't work because Latvia and Belarus still play against each other. So it's impossible that both teams get 3 points from the games against each other.

If you're not losing against Kazakhstan, Switzerland will lose against Latvia

If Finland and Latvia have same amount points, Finland is always behind.

1. Points
2. Game against

Yes that's true but not if Belarus loses against Russia in regular time and wins only in OT against Latvia and Latvia wins also only in OT/SO against Switzerland but loses against Belarus in regular time and Finland of course wins against Kazahkstan, it looks like this:

Finland 11 points
Latvia 11 points
Belarus 11 points

-In this case the amounts of points gained between the games against each other would count first.
All 3 teams got 3 points in the games against each other, so the situation would still be tied.

- The next criteria would then be the goal difference of the games against each other. Here Finland had automatically the better goal difference than Latvia and stood before them.

Yes of course this is possible too. In this case Latvia may lose against Belarus in OT/SO and Finland advanced to the quarterfinal, of course only if Belarus loses in regular time against Russia.

But if Latvia wins in regular time against Switzerland but loses against Belarus in regular time Finland will miss the quarterfinal too, like Switzerland.

Tend to agree. Only saw the third period but Finland carried the play and if not for the play of Tim Thomas and some good fortune in front of the net the USA might not have won.

The first goal was a bit of misfortune and Johnson did a nice job of using the screen.

Otherwise, Finland was the better team. So basically he's right.

Erkka Westerlund said we weren't bad. He was happy about the team. :amazed:

Uh, no they weren't. US was better in first, second was even, and since the US had the lead they were sitting back and letting Finland take weak shots in the third.
