I'll have to admit I was also one of the naysayers when this trade was made. I saw Domi play for the first time last night and I was really impressed with the guy. I was totally wrong about this trade. I hope Chucky can find his game in Arizona and become a great player for them but I really like this Domi kid.

It's not often that when your favorite player gets traded and player that joins the team becomes your next favorite but Domi is fast becoming my favorite player on this team.

I likeed Galchenyuk and was not too happy when he was traded but i gotta say that so far i prefer the style that Domi is playing. The guy is all effort and much more mobile and always in movement compared to Chucky.

Hopefully he can keep it up but he's been a very pleasant surprise so far

Did it come out? Citation needed.

Speaks a lot that the cowards in MTL media didn't report on something clearly in the public/fans' interest in order to further ingratiate themselves with the Habs organization. They literally work to conspire against the fans and expect us to pay them for their glorified PR job (eg The Athletic, which I've cancelled).

I didn't personally hear it for myself, but Mario Tremblay was apparently talking about it.

I actually had a problem with it. A substance abuse problem is a personal issue and should be respected as such. I think that stuff leaves the sporting realm and enters into the tmz crap, which I hate.

That's not even the worse of it. I got ostracized for merely suggesting that it is entirely possible that Domi is as skilled as Galchenyuk.
I had a similar experience. The drama queens were in full meltdown and now they are saying the same thing I did back then. Domi works every night, competes, and has skill - hmm. Who would have thought - I did and a few others. Too many just wanted to rag on MB and could not be objective while wetting themselves.
Domi wasn't lighting the world on fire and a team that's objectively worse than the Habs had him on the trade block for a reason.

Let's agree that he's looking impressive so far and we're happy to have him. But given how poorly this organization deals with talented players, I have absolutely no faith in it being a "winning" trade.

I don't mind if it isn't reported on, I agree that players have earned their privacy, but I do mind when it is cryptically discussed in hushed tones. Either say it or don't, it serves nobody any good to have it be an open secret.

Besides the fact that Max Domi plays a smart game, Hockey IQ is through the roof. His talent is highly underrated also he bares a striking resemblance to my son, plus he's a Hab!!!... :vhappy::vhappy::vhappy::wave::wave::wave:

I'm surprised that so many fans had chucky as their favorite player. His allure/potential wore off on me a couple years ago. Even when he was racking up points as our top line center with radulov it didn't really seem like he was a play driver.

Chucky's not a play maker, but he creates offense out of nothing. Only certain players can create scoring chances out of nothing. Chucky is in that category. An example of this is Scherbak's beauty goal against Vegas/MAF. If Chucky doesn't make that great play at the blue line, there is no scoring chance, let alone a goal. He even got DLR to produce when he was on that line.

He's better than eller, Bonino and vermette but not as good as Kuznetsov, or Malkin, but probably better than brad Richards (2015)

He could be a2c on a contender, just not one built like Pittsburgh or Washington.

Max's game is by far more closely resembling Team Canada's Capt. Crosby, great teammate that knows the game and continually learns wanting to be the best he can be!!!...:vhappy::vhappy::vhappy:

I knew of Domi before he came and I was ecstatic that we got him but unhappy that we sent Chucky the other way. So I understand how you feel.

He had a slightly better PPG than Galchenyuk. So if there was a reason foer putting him on the bloack then what does that say about Galchenyuk

Seguin truly is a ****** bag. Max has always been a good kid. His father is a back stabbing sociopath , thankfully his mother is a great person.

The Domi's have done an exceptional job of parenting an outstanding member of society. Tie's being the face for Comwave is also a bonus to society IMHO, besides being Habs fan & father. Love the guy & his son even when Tie was a Leaf, had to respect him as a man with ìdeals.:vhappy::vhappy::vhappy:

However, if he does keep up, he would quite easily be a top 6 c on most teams. I also think the saying "on a contending team" is a bit flawed. There isnt a single center in the league besides McDavid that would be a top 6 center in Pittsburgh. They are a contending team, does that mean that all other centers are number threes on a cup contending team? On the other hand, Nashville is a cup contender too, do you think Turris is a legit 2? Hes their 2nd line center on a cup contending team, is he better than Domi(if he keeps this up)?
Yeah that's another example. Also the Hawks after Toews during their cup runs.
There's a caveat which often goes unmentioned when mentioning teams like Chicago, Winnipeg and Nashville as examples of contenders with lesser center lines, is that each of them are exceptional in some other area of their lineup.

Hawks had an all-star cast of wingers with Kane, Hossa, Sharp along with other emerging young players. Same goes for the Jets - who have by far, the best group of wingers since. And Nashville has the best top-4 in the game, with three top pairing defensemen, two of them superstars.

So while it's not impossible, if we're going by those teams, the amount of talent required in other areas to make up for it is enormous.

The caveat is that you need an elite team, it's not chemistry, you don't have to have the right amount of every element, you just need what works.

Yep 100% same. I'm surprised by the sheer amount of love for Galchenyuk around here. He's good, I have nothing really bad to say about him but the the fact that he had 23 points in 25 games with a high SH% playing with Radulov didn't convince me of a higher ceiling. It happens, a 60 point player will have stretches like that and stretches of 12 points in 25 games over the course of a season. Same thing with Domi now, he won't end up with 90 points. I wouldn't be surprised if Domi ended up with less points from today through the end of the season than Galchenyuk but was still a better player, especially in our system.

Galchenyuk to me was a 50-60 point guy who was very deadly in space (thus a great PP/3 on 3 weapon) but whose lack of speed, hockey sense and defensive play limited his ceiling. A valuable 2nd line asset but expendable. Domi has warts too but he's got a better contract, he's a touch younger and he's a better fit for a Julien coached team. I think people trying to say the trade was an easy home run are overstating it but it was a reasonable change of scenario move with a bit of upside. At worst, skilled player who's a better fit and on a better contract.

Ok, so let's say Domi keeps up his style of play and effort, and pots 20 plus goals and 55 - 60 points. Are we happy calling him a real 2C on a good team ?

So saying "he would be a 3rd line center on a cup contender" does not tell the whole story. Cup contenders are teams like Pens with 2 generational centers and the Preds with one average 1st line center and another mediocre top 6 center.

Sure. But those teams are more the exceptions than the norm. How often do we see teams with casts of wingers as good as the Hawks and Jets or top-4s like the Preds?

Not to mention, aside from the Hawks, you have to go back 10+ years to find another team that's won with a decent #2.

I don't think it's impossible to be a contender with Domi as a #2. Just that it would depend so heavily on the rest of the lineup. Like those teams, we'd need wingers that stack up to Wheeler, Laine, Ehlers, Connor or top-4 of Subban, Josi, Ekholm, Ellis caliber. I feel like that's a taller order than having another center of Kotkaniemi's level or better.

I think he's more skilled than Chucky and he doesn't have the yips when he gets the puck on his stick. He's been a great addition to the team

Yeah I was surprised to keep hearing that Domi was so much less skilled. Coming out of junior Domi looked every bit as skilled as Galchenyuk. I thought he might've been a bit more skilled too. Seeing Domi now and he looks similar to the player coming out of junior that I was dying we could get somehow.

Domi's speed and skating is far beyond Galch's. Much better passer and the better playmaker. Chucky has the better shot but it looks like Domi's is coming back to him. Hands? I don't know Galch could have ridiculous mitts but he loses the puck far too often. I think I seen Domi pull the odd deke. I guess Galch's hands are better but not by much and they're offset by how much he fails to use them well.

So yeah I at least think they're comparable in skill.

Yeah it was pretty sad how slow the realization came upon me that he wasn't going to come close to his potential. Mind you I thought he was going to be a top 10 forward in the league which was probably stupid on my part but he still could've been far better than he's shown so far. I thought he'd get significantly stronger too.

You are still not winning the cup with a weak support group. Pens have 2 generational centers, that will probably not happen for a very very very long time, especially with the new lottery system. Goaltending and defense are also questionable for teams like the Leafs and Jets. It's why they still havent won anything. If you dont wih the cup, it will be due to other reasons than Domi being the 2nd line center.

Google Mario Tremblay RDS Galcheynyuk, pretty sure you will find the quote. And Gagnon alluded to it in Sept.
