I admit I’m not sure of what the positional needs of Arizona at the time were and maybe someone can correct me and shed some light on the reasoning. But even then, you still take the best player available. And there is no way this Simashev kid was/is a better prospect than Michkov. And picking Simashev clearly threw the Russian factor out the window. So, if anything, the most egregious pass to me is Arizona. Even if picks 2-5 turn out to be complete busts, at least you can excuse it on fears over the Russian uncertainty. But when Arizona passed on him for another Russian it was like wtf…
They had Cooley and Keller, no way did they need Michkov even if Michkov was willing to live in a dorm room and play in a HS arena.

Caufield would get 50 for sure with Michkov.

Caufield already has Suzuki and doesn't need a Michkov or Demidov to score 50. Kid has already paced close to 50 already as a mere rookie and sophomore, netting 48 goals in 83 games from the moment MSL was hired up to his shoulder injury, and was pacing 45 goals for that season before he got sidelined in January 2023. Last year he came off his rehab for his surgery and had the lowest shooting % since he was a toddler. His shoulder and shot seem to be back up to their usual standards as he has 16 goals in his last 18 games.

Michkov has been everything I expected he would be, except he has shown even more strength than I thought he would have this early. He is the total package.

lol. So instead of just admiring what he,s doing, let's put Montreal in this as if they had the first 6 picks of the draft......You guys have MDS....Montreal Derangement Syndrom. Which is funny 'cause we haven,t been relevant in quite a while....no idea how the team is living rent free....lolll
I just simply find it really funny that they always seem to overthink their 1st round pick even though the obvious choices are staring them right in the face. Remember Kotkaniemi? It just seems the franchise is allergic to high end offensive talent.

Better than Bedard already? I haven’t watched him in the NHL really for more than a period so not sure, anyone who watches both care to chime in?
I'd say no at this time. Has the potential but Bedard looked more impressive off the hop to me. Both are absolute studs but Bedard at this point is more game breaking. Michkov definitely has the same potential but just from the small sample size it's two guys with a lot of great skill. Bedard's game is just more suited for taking over as he can create goal scoring out of his own will as where Michkov is more likely to be reliant as more of a playmaker (not taking anything from his goal scoring, potential is there but his vision in my opinion is his best attribute).

Except, that's the old guard. The new crew's drafting record so far is good. Slaf and Hutson are both wins. Demidov, Hage and Fowler quite probably too. Reinbacher hasn't played a single game yet, so pretending this is a Kotkaniemi situation already is just bad faith based on a past that is no longer relevant. They also didn't do all that bad in Trevor Timmins' last few years where he had much more control over the draft as AGM. They did well with Caufield and Guhle. Mailloux might be another success as a late 1st.

They had what many considered to be an equal talent to Connor Bedard literally fall into their lap at 5th spot. They literally over thought themselves on what may be one of the best young players of this decade.

The new guard drafted Reinbacher over Michkov lmfao

I wanted Michkov, I was even one of the loudest voices against W3K's crusade to shutdown complaints... but counting out Reinbacher like he'll be nothing is just ridiculous.

Your "lmfao" is not needed.
It is needed because the gap between the two players is absolutely massive and it was always obvious

If absolutely everything goes right for Reinbacher he’s a top 4 D

Michkov will probably be a top 10 player

If everything goes right he's a 1D. Stop pretending you're omniscient or that players never go over or under their projection. When it is all said and done the gap might not be as big as you think.

Michkov might also become a top 20-30 player, you don't know. Your lmfao is childish, cut it out.

The Habs passed on him at #5, but so did the Coyotes at #6. This guy should have been #2 after Bedard.
The team that in now Utah got a really big Dman who is excelling in the KHL right now and the 2nd and 3rd picks were 2 big very skilled centers but sure picks 4 and 5 on talent its questionable but Michkov isn't a slam dunk to become a Kucherov like some are suggesting here.

They didn't call him the "Russian Connor Bedard" for nothing.
Who calls him that?

With the Russians still being inexplicably banned from the WJC we lost a great opportunity to see him and Bedard go head to head.
I think that you should look up what inexplicably means.

So the fans missed out on that, but the scouts still should have known how good this kid was. Both the Coyotes and Habs drafted players that are not in the NHL yet. Michkov is probably the Calder favourite at this moment. Just bad management to pass up on him. I was stunned it took 7 teams to finally take him.
I'm not stunned see above in my first line given his skating and other things, sometimes teams make picks on more than just talent.

So CC is pacing for close to 50 except when he isn't?

You also left out that he is shooting 30% and on a hot streak right now.

CC is a very good goal scorer and could top 40 goals a couple of times in his career but 50 might not happen.

He's pacing close to 50 when he hasn't gone through shoulder surgery. Shouldn't be too hard to understand. I'm sure you can make the effort.

Chronology

- 40 games as a rookie with Ducharme where he's practically scoreless, 5 goals, and the team is utter shit for the last 30 of those 40 games.

- 83 games with St-Louis, 48 goals. Shoots 17.7% on 272 shots (10-02-22 to 19-01-23)

-Shoulder surgery

- starts a new season after rehab, scores 20 goals in the first 73 games on 273 shots, shooting 7.3% ffs

-and then his last 18 games, 16 goals on 67 shots, for a 23.9 s%.

So you might think you sounded smart with your first sentence, but all you're doing is showing you have a sorta mental gap where it doesn't register that a shoulder surgery will affect a sniper, -i meam who's ever heard of that, right?-

It is quite probable caufield will score 50 in a season.

From what I've heard, it takes between 12 to 24 months after surgery for everything to be back to form. Last April was 15 months since his surgery.

4 guys scored 50+ goals in the NHL last year, the year before it was 5.

Some of the guys who scored 40 goals+ but short of 50 probably had pace of 50 goals at times but it's a higher bar than you are making it out to be.

Brock Boeser is pacing for 50 and finally scored 40 last year but it's a really hard thing to do and frankly maybe BB gets 40 again but I highly doubt that he is scoring 50.

Who calls him that?

During the 2023 draft year I had heard it. More like in the beginning of the 2022-'23 season rather than the end. Let's just say there wasn't a ton of separation between the two of them around the summer of 2022 according to scouts.

I think that you should look up what inexplicably means.

We all have dictionaries, I know what it means. We shouldn't ban a country and its players from a tournament. To me, perhaps not you, the reasons for Russia being omitted aren't credible. Name a time a boycott of a country at the Olympics accomplished anything? The 1980 Olympians perhaps might want to have a word with you about that

Habs fans had me convinced that Caufield is a 50 goal scorer.

I just checked and his career high is 28 goals
